Lidl bargains

They almost tempted me, but then I remembered that I already had 3 different chargers!
Best not, then. SWMBO would never understand.

 

They don't look quite as good Eric, as that one you got for me. I particularly like the LCD screen which: shows the voltage of a battery before charging it; shows the charging voltage; has different charging programs depending on the size of battery (bike or car); has pulse charging to de-sulphate the plates and other good stuff too.

Aldi have a set of Hex keys with handles for £6.99 on Thursday.

 

Also Aldi have a 32 piece screwdriver set for £6.99 on Thursday.

 

Can be quite good, although I think the quality has gone south a bit over recent years, I would not buy any battery powered tools from either Lidl or Aldi since I nearly had a Lidl drill battery catch fire while charging from brand new for the 2nd time, it was already a replacement that did it before!
All their tools carry 3 years warranty, the mains electric tools seem alright, and hand tools are fine for the money too.
They aint Halfords Professional range but then again they aint Halfords price either!
I had to re-wire my battery charger as the wire went brittle where it goes into the charger body, not difficult to do, but out side warranty so it owes me nothing.

 

IMHO Draper & Kamasa were as good as Stanley in the 70's, now all 3 are Chinese crap!
Draper and Kamasa were Japanese I think, then Taiwan, now any-where out of China.
Still got some Draper sockets and still using the Kamasa trolley jack, that's lifted a few Landrovers a few times too!

 

I bought an 18v Hitachi drill from Screwfix a couple of years ago, been well abused, handy having 2 batteries especially when drilling concrete, which its done many times!
Only fault is its chuck, can un-do when least expecting it and drop the bit, usually when I'm up a ladder!!

 

Still have my Draper socket set from 1978! Cannot complain about the quality - shame it had to change.

 

Still got the blue metal case as well?
With PROPER steel hinges, not like the blown plastic you get these days!

 

Got my Optimate 4 cigarette lighter lead today, good bit of kit and already used in anger, thanks again Dozersdad for the heads up, one happy bunny (it don`t take much) lol

 

Still got my 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2" Draper socket sets bought in the early seventies.
Not a full time mechanic but they have served me well on hundreds of mechanical jobs over the years.
Draper quality does not appear to be the same now.
Since buying my Bonnie, I have treated myself to the Halfords Professional range with the lifetime guarantee.
Didn't really need it but at £115 special offer for a 170 piece socket set with a RRP of £250, believe me it is great value!
I also splashed out on a couple of torque wrenches and a 1/2" breaker bar, justified already by doing my car brakes back and front a couple of weeks ago.
Apply for a Halfords trade card which discounts virtually everything they sell.
Buy cheap and risk damaging all your socket heads, nuts and bolts plus the inevitable spanner rash, just not worth it.

 

Now that is a cabinet!
Just out of interest do you keep your multi-asstd. screwdrivers (pictured in the top shot) in it, or would it make it too hard to find the right one if they were tidy ? lol

My old Draper tools were in blue steel hinged cases for 1/4 & 3/8 and orange for the 1/2
Bit rusty and tatty now but still in them.

As a continuation of tools and tool boxes, where or what do you all store your tools in. Mine are all over the place in separate boxes but have just bought one of these, hope they are not total pants (but only paid £350 for mine)

They seem to have a bit of weight about them so fingers crossed.

 

Mine are scattered between a four drawer cabinet, several office style large green storage boxes and lots of plastic boxes, ice cream cartons, jam jars etc etc etc.

Haven't had chance to get things properly organised since the house move.

 

Mine are strategically placed on 5 ex-Woolworths display shelves 4 high, works well for me, with a few things hung up on hooks. (well, nails actually!)
