Any War time book experts out there?
I have 2 sets of war time books, they were weekly parts all bound professionally by the publishers to make up the fantastic sets, between the 2 sets I would think every bloke and his dog gets a mention some-where!
1st set, 'The War illustrated' runs from 1939-47 vol. 1-10, all complete and in pretty good 'book shelf' condition, the 2nd set is 'Hutchinsons Pictorial History of the War,' complete set again of 15 volumes dating 3rd September 1939 -4th September 1945.
I have seen odd numbers of both sets on eBay and book specialists shops and web sites but never complete volumes, I've been offered decent money for odd numbers to makes up other collectors sets but I wont break the sets up, that would be such a shame.
Any one have any idea what each collection would be worth?
I just have too many books so will be down sizing, I have a couple of rare sales books on the DH Trident and DH (HS) 125, both dated 1962, a museum wants them but how would they be seen & shown to the public, only to end up in a draw or 'get lost', so I'm not keen.
I also have a stash of RAF work shop safety posters that are quite comical, the paper on these is quite frail so I might get them vacuum coated, and loads of recognition cards from the 60's, DH Heron, Dove, Buccaneer, Andover, Gnat etc, all Hawker Sidderley Aerospace products.
Any one have any idea what any of its worth?
I might put it all to my local auction house, but think it might get under-sold.
    Cheers
    Terry

i would think ebay would be the best bet, you could always fix a reserved price on the items..sounds as if you have some great stuff there.like you say if you were to send them to auction you would have to be pretty lucky to have a few collectors there to get what they are worth..maybe some of the big auctioneers have specialized sales for this kind of stuff it might be worth looking into that..good luck :)

I never sell on eBay, only winners are eBay & PayPal who you are forced into getting your money through.
Out auction house in Armadale is o.k. for general (junk) sales, but I wouldn't trust them with anything too good, our nearest if Glasgow, Anita Manning, they know a thing or 2.

why not take photos and send them to a specialist auction house, they'll give you abetter idea. Maybe the bound volumes will be worth more broken up. Like bikes!!!

Hmmmmmmmmm, I'd not be any good in business, I would not break either set up, all that happens is you end up with a broken set in a different location, and some one else ends up with a complete set worth potentially a lot of money.
Such a shame to break them up any way, I'd rather keep them.
Trouble is all the stuff I want to 'down size' I like, that's why I got it in the first place!
Just the ambition to move in a year or two with less stuff looks like a good idea!o_O
