Cleaning my S3 tonight I noticed this small Blister on my front tyre. It's a supercorsa sp OE tyre done 2500 miles. Anyone one else noticed anything similar on theirs (2016 speed triple r) thinking I'll take it to a tyre specialist Saturday morning to see if it's safe . What's your thoughts on this ?
The laminates breaking down by the looks and that blister could turn into stank slapper egg in time. Replace sooner than later.
Looks like a heat bubble, what pressure front do you run. could it be that you hit a large stone/rock and it has damaged the construction
I don't like the look of that at all. If that blows you will be in a real shit-storm of out of control bike. Get a new tyre would be my advice and maybe a different make/model.
I'm in agreement with all of you on changing my tyre. I've got on quite well with the supercorsas though so might stay with them. I've been running the pressures stated in the hand book. And can't remember hitting any stones or pot holes, not that hard and no more than usual anyway. Might go with different tyres now its getting cooler and damp , seems to make sense.
Had a bubble appear once on my spare tyre, managed to find a bloke to repair it for me and it's been fine since. Here's a picture taken just after the repair :-
Change that tyre without doubt Just a Thought, Contact the Tyre Manufacture. Send them the photo and let them know you have only done 2500 miles. Tell them that this should be investigated and can you get a replacement free of charge. You dont ask you dont Get.....
If it helps, I found this on fleabay which is a Metzeler Z8 180/55-17 It has been advertised as Dunlop Z8 Intereact but is of course a Metzeler and atthe bargain price of £79.74 Ebay link Being sold by Demon Tweeks If you needa quick, inexpensive quality replacement
Looking at another forum, it appears this can happen when a tyre is under inflated and you hit an object like a pothole. This damages the plies inside the rubber, and ruptures the inner membrane. Quite often the inside of the tyre is a lot worse as the bubble also forms between the membrane and the plies seperating the rubber affecting an area a lot larger then seen on the outside In short...not good
It's my front tyre that's the problem but think I'll get a new pair anyway. Might go with diablo rosso corsa as these are a more 50/50 road and track tyre a better bet for our shit winter roads .
Rosso Corsa is a great tyre and is less than a second slower around a race track, they work even better on the road as they don't suffer as bad as Supercorsa's on heat cycles
