Hello all! I'm a relatively new Triumph owner. Got a fab Tiger XRX from the lovely folks in St Leonards a few months ago. AND I love it!!! I live in South London. Am an A&E nurse when I've got to be at work and have done the IAM advanced riding thing via LAM. Hence, I am a shift worker and get days off in the week sometimes. So in this incredible weather, I headed to the coast on Wednesday for the afternoon, and had a dip. I think I raised a few eyebrows, climbing out of black biker kit into some flourescent beach kit. But - if that doesn't faze you... I'd love to do some similar runs with anyone local before the weather turns all British winter. It'd be more fun with company.... Oh, and the bit I need help with.... I've been taking a bit of time getting used to the handlebars position. At first I thought it was because of the wider/ Adventure styling of the handlebars but I get a kind of cramp in the bases of my thumbs. I realise its due to the height and width and that if I keep my elbows elevated it is a bit better. But I don't want to do long trips and twisty roads with my elbows out like that. I've had some guys look at the shape and they suggested I see what other riders have done about it.... Triumph only do one option for the bar shape. Look forward to hearing from you Yo
Hello Yo and welcome in. As the XRX has a variable seat height feature, have you tried using different positions (steady!) to see if that has any effect on yer thumbs?
Hi yolande, welcome in and what a great bike! Surprised, being an A&E nurse, I always thought you guys would drink, smoke, bunjee jump over crocodiles but would never ride a motorbike!! Anyway, regarding your bars, when I bought my 800 the previous owner, a bit shorter than me, had twisted the bars towards him a bit, which made my wrists sit at a weird angle and caused pain, so I twisted them back out, not a lot! And that sorted it. Maybe try twisting them towards or away from you a little. Regarding rides I am often free during the week and am SW london so could always hook up. Typically this week is quite busy. Put a message in ride outs and events when you're thinking of going and you'll probably get ignored like me!! But then again probably not! Oh and finally, have you looked at joining your local Tomcc?
Thanks Crispey. I do like to surprise people... As for the handle bars...I'm told I can't twist them, as the bars have slots or holes that have the gear attached and they need to be in the right position. Anyhow, I'm thinking risers may be the way forward now. Oh, and what is Tomcc?
Sorry I didn't realise that, I've got the old cheap model, but it's blue!! Risers might be the way to go then. Tomcc= triumph owners motorcycle club here depending on where in south london you are there will be a branch near you. MSL are Merton way. Peanuts to join, weekly meets, monthly ride outs and members are usually off somewhere at some time. Go to one before deciding, I'm at Surrey branch and they are a decent enough lot, more grown up and polite than this lot but thAts not difficult
The amount of turn in the bars backwards or forwards is so small that you will be able to do it without moving the switches and levers, just adjust the mirrors after well worth a go
Hey = thanks for the advice I'll see what I can find. I am involved with LAM, but in the summer want more riding time. Do you lot get involved in things like the Brighton Burn Up?
Hi yolande, Enjoy the XRX, Very nice bike. Hope the weather stays good between your shifts We are on here all hours talking bikes and taking the Michael out of each other. Lots of fun to be had. Best of luck with your ride outs
Thanks for making me feel welcome all! There's a ride this eve with the Surrey lot eh? I sent a message yesterday to see if I might come along (despite not joining yet) ..Crispey....you there?
Hey Yolande and welcome to the madhouse/forum. Hope you manage to get a few more miles in before the weather turns
Yeah it will be no problem, just introduce yourself, they are a very welcoming bunch. get there around 7:30 though. where will you be coming from, if I can get to it I'll try and meet you on the way
Hi Yolande, you can't come on this forum and say words like a Tiger XRX, Nurse and flourescent beach kit without posting pictures. It's the rules.
