Bloody good for you. I could only choose one reaction, so based on your opening statement I went for the laughing icon :):):)

Thanks Dawsy. But the Speed Triple 1050 RS was still my all time best bike by a country mile. But my body is no longer compatible with the Speedie. Looking forward to my new ride though.

No problem, it is running fantastic, can't believe the change for the better, the Euro Emissions are causing huge problems, thank's to Woolwich Racing who developed the MAP, they are still trying to crack the latest model ECU, they are hopeful they will do so very soon. You can easily bypass everything on the new machines, but this involves a new ECU, wiring loom, dash and a bit more, the issue is the cost, you are looking around £4,000 for these alone, really only for turning the bike to a full on race machine, then with everything else you are looking around the £70,000 to £80,000, deep pockets indeed for a race bike. But for the money and road riding I am over the moon with mine now, thankfully I can do the work myself.

Another ride out yesterday with my youngest son on his Katana, we set off from my house, and headed to Milnthorpe and on through Lyth Valley, headed to the ferry from Bowness to Hawkshead, stopped for a drink at a lovely place that rents lodges, then had a ride around the Hawkshead countryside, we then headed to Coniston and a re fuel, then onto Greenodd, from there onto Flookburgh, a new bike night had been advertised so we went to check it out, it is on a working farm, run by an ex racer, so he knows bikes and bikers needs. After something to eat a a chat to the owner and other bikers we set off back home, arriving at 6.30pm.

Well done on the Speed Twin 900!

I had a bit of trouble with my 400, and there seem to be a few others having various glitches, so better to see that sorted out before going down that major downsize route...... although if you get a good 'un, it's a good 'un!!

Congrats on that new bike, @TRIPLE X. It's still a Speed...but now a Speed TWIN! I hope you have many happy miles on your new ride. :)

I suspect that was a bittersweet ride yesterday, @TRIPLE X. I'm sure you'll cherish some fond memories from being aboard your RS. I hope you enjoy your new Speed Twin as much as did your RS even though in perhaps different ways. Can't wait to see some photos when you take delivery.

Had to place the Rocket's battery in charge today. I was riding it all day yesterday with a couple of stops with no starting problems and no warning lights lit. After a fuel-up late afternoon the engine wouldn't turn over when I went to start the bike. Dash lights were on, I could hear the fuel pump spooling up, but when I pressed the starter there was just a whirr and a click and the dash lights went out. Classic flat battery symptoms. But why, when it had been working fine all day?

A local chap who had stopped at the petrol station kindly went home and fetched some jump leads. The battery terminal conections were good and tight and clean. So not loose leads. The bike fired up immediately when jumped and I was able to ride the 30 odd miles home, so there's nothing wrong with the starter motor or solenoid. But once I'd got the bike back in the garage I switched it off, including the key fob, waited a few minutes and woke the bike and fob up again and tried to restart. Nothing. A whirr and a click and dimmed dash again.
So either the battery is knackered and not accepting a charge. Or it is taking a charge but not holding it, or something on the bike is causing a parasitic drain and depleting the battery when the ignition is off and the bike at rest. But this seems unlikely as I'd ridden the bike all day and I would expect the bike's charging system to override any earth drain when ridden.
Or, worst case, the charging system is faulty.

I disconnected the battery this morning (should have done it last night..) and put it on charge. My theory is, if it is fully charged tomorrow and will start the bike when reconnected, it must be taking a charge.
If that's the case I'll leave it off the charger and unconnected from the bike and try again next day. If it's gone flat over night the battery must be shot and is not holding its charge. If it's still charged I'll reconnect the terminals, wake the bike up then shut it down again and leave it. If it subsequently goes flat without being ridden there must be a parasitic drain somewhere. If it's fine and still fully charged, it must be something wrong with the charging system on the bike and the battery is not being charged when ridden.

I'm sure there's a less long-winded way of making a diagnosis but electrics are not my field, I don't have the test metres and the dealership isn't open til Tuesday.
I'm hoping it is just a dead battery. They operate on the limit of their capacity with these huge engines and the slightest voltage loss results in a no-start. But I am suspicious that it worked fine all day and suddenly gave up the ghost on the third restart.

If any of that makes sense...

Hi Sandi, the guy that owns the farm and organises the bike nights has a dry sense of humour, I don't think your licence would last long if you took it literally.

Similar thing happened to me once. Been out all day on a Speed Triple without any issues stopping and starting. Then stopped for petrol and it would not start or try to start even though I had lights etc. Jump started and got me home ok and yes it was the battery. How old is your battery?

Same here. I rode my ZZR1200 250 miles to a job, no problem. Next day it failed to turn over. l was so convinced it couldn't be the battery l gutted the bloody thing on my front lawn. Suddenly remembered my other bike had a new battery so did a quick swap, You know the rest.....

PS treat yourself to a conditioner such as the Oxford or CTEK which l have.
