Anyone else been in this predicament?

In my 50s and owned bikes on and off since mid 20s, had a few big bikes, RSV Mille and Tuono.

Been out of the scene for several years and got to start from ZERO on no claims.

Bought the Street Triple 675 and surprised at a lot of the quotes, cheapest was £580 which i thought was expensive.

Thing is though, i want a Speed Triple 1200 for weekends and il use the Street triple for commuting.

Anyone know of any insurance companies that are a bit more approachable (for want of a better word).

It used to be the case where some firms would take into account stuff like old copies of renewal notes as proof that you had been insured on bigger bikes. Cant remember who that was though.

Have you tried a comparison site, that might get a few quotes to look at. That's what I did when I came back to 2 wheels with no no-claims, BUT, I was insuring a 500 then a 650, not your more performance related machines!

Hello, yes, i used one of those sites for street triple. There were actually a few companies that would not insure me, which i thought was ridiculous.

Maybe im best waiting until i have a years full no claims before thinking about the 1200.

I found the difference in price with and without no claims wasn't that much. It was cheaper to start my Speed Triple from 0 than add it to my 9+ years of NCB on my other bike.

Thanks for the reply, that's interesting.

When i get around to it and out of curiosity, will get some quotes and see what happens.

    Cheers

Do you have a car or 4 wheel vehicle with a good portion of ncb?
If so, mention this over the phone and its likely they'll give you a discount based on that i.e. less risk/safer driver

    Hi Sean,

Have you tried asking about a "multi-bike" policy? Obviously you can only ride one bike at a time.

Last year, after returning from working abroad, I had zero no-claims. Hastings Direct gave me the best quote (and it included helmets, leathers, legal protection as standard + I added the personal cover option for £19) and for my Speed Tripple R I paid £270 last year. This year, with 1 year no-claims under my belt, Hasting Direct were again the best priced even though I changed to a 2024 Rocket 3 Storm GT - they came in at £340.

Also, make sure that you don't over egg the number of miles you will do in the year, as the pricing seems quite sensitive to the number of miles. You can always start low, and then go back to them later in the year if you are going to exceed what you said at the start. I set mine at 2999 miles.

I am late 50s, been biking for 20+ years, yet I thought £340 for a Storm GT with 1 years no claims was decent.

As the others have said, it is worth calling them and discussing, as they can play about with options and tell you how any changes affect the cost.

I must have posted this a few times now but check a few of the comparison sites and you will probably see a trend with one broker giving the most competitive quote. Then go on topcashback.co.uk and you will probably find the same result, the difference being that you will also be given cash back once the policy has been running a month or two.

Hi SaunR, yes mate I had the same problem. I had an America with sidecar, wich added more complications as a lot of the forms on web sites do not have a section for sidecars. And going back to biking after many years off I also did not have any no claims. Shopping around and the comaprison sites is the best way. I got good quotes from Bikesure, and Bemoto. And as said above phoning might get a better quote. Good luck bud.

    Thanks all.

Agree that i will probably get further with a phone call.

Can actually remember i had a 1000cc with a certain insurer. Maybe still on their records, worth a try.

    Cheers
