Hello everyone I am a newbie to this forum stuff so be gentle with me :)
I have a 1999 Sprint 995i, and the bike started as normal, travelled 1 mile and the bike stalled. I couldn't restart her, engine turned over as normal, but battery drained very quickly, replaced battery after an overnight charge, same thing happened again, this time I notice a strong smell of petrol, checked breather pipes and they were clear. That as far as i have got other then putting the battery on charge again........er help:confused:

    Hi Dozers Dad
Thanks for the reply,Is a "Drop Test" necessary as the battery is brand new and was charged for at least 15 hours?

mmmmm sorry about that, only got a GCSE in English:confused:.
After the first failure to start my bike, I brought a brand new battery and charged it over night.
(Do you know if a Gel type Battery needs a longer initial charge then a lead acid type?) Refit the bike with the new battery , she started, turned off engine and tried to restart her again..... nothing. took Battery out of bike to recharge and that is as far as I have got.
Chatting to a guy in town he mention about old fuel giving the same symptoms, is he right?
Thanks for your help ....Its much appreciated.

Up date on my sick Sprint 955i, after a couple of days of searching and swapping things around the fault turned out to be a flat battery.!!!! ( GRRRRR).The brand new charger I was charging the battery with was not giving out any voltage so the £40 halfords charger went back.

yep did as requested jumped on my 955i started along the A299 for a few miles, the pain of not riding my bike for so long was slowly disappearing and "the grin " was present and growing, slowing down for the roundabout, flip the bike left then right, open the throttle and nothing it literary dropped dead on me. Had enough momentum to roll to McDonald s. Sat there for twenty minutes, tried the bike, started first time off we went. Decided to take a quieter route home Via Pegwell Bay slowed down for the traffic lights, pull clutch rev rev brake rev rev and nothing 20 mins later we are off again, came straight home.
On the bright side , along the open road it was sweet and I managed to not fall off my bike even though its been 15 years since the last time I rode one. so Happy days :):):)

have you check the connection on the battery .
I had a thing a few weeks ago where every time i started the terminal bolt slackened on the nut and I lost connection. and so nothing pushed bike to pavement, checked again, and away iI went.
When you say nothing do you mean on instruments lights anything?

    Hi JTD
No sorry, i have the usual instrument lights, but when I try to start the engine, it turns over but does not fire, I left it for about 20 mins I can then start the engine, I cant put my finger on the problem is it fuel starvation, flooding though i could not smell any petrol,or something with electrics like a sensor.....? any ideas?
    Many thanks for the help:)

is your engine management light on?
what is your normal idle speed?
    check rectifier/regulator connections

'it turned out to be the electrical connector block situated on the right hand side of the bike beside the fuel pump. This is on a sprint rs model, most of the small connectors have corroded away, therefore when i pulled the connector apart most of the spades fell out.'

if its when hot it could be the crank position sensor

side stand cut out switch? may be stand moved on the roundabout u spoke about
