Thanks. Some useful info here. As SamsGrandad said, a factor must be the location. I am going to see if parking it in a shed makes a difference as I was thinking of knocking up a shelter anyway. Maybe even a ground anchor.

Those Asgard bike storage sheds are insurance - company friendly I believe, but obviously come at a cost!!

@Stu9000 If you notice all those guys with low insurance are up North where even bike thieves fear to tread!!
Unfortunately, like you, I live in Kingston area and get stung for insurance. I'm with Bennetts and I have 2 bikes on a policy, thruxton 900 and Tiger 900, my policy went up by 30% on my last renewal, I called them to query it and got it reduced to a10% rise, their excuse was that the underwriters prices change daily and that was what it was when they sent me the first quote! I'm fully comp and business use for the Tiger as I travel to different places of work it can't be classed as commuting. I'm in late 60's, max no claims and the bikes are garaged. cost £530 with the penalty of tripling my excess if the bike is stolen within x amount of meters of my home if left out of garage, quite a few insurers wouldn't pay out at all if nicked from the same.
I used to have one of them in a wooden shed in front of the house but for it to make any difference to the cost it had to be a permanent structure as in Brick etc.

Thanks. I was reading the small print on structures. If it is metal I think it counts. I was looking up the cost of Ali sheeting. But breeze blocks might be quicker and cheaper. I quite fancy a learning a bit of bricky work. But that is a summer project.

One of the brokers told me that a couple of providers have pulled out. I think debt is more expensive generally and that must also affect premiums.

Just be careful about planning permission if it's going in the front

Yes. Was wondering about that. If its wood it can be classed a temporary structure.

I use Hastings direct premium. I was surprised how cheap I got my Brand new Triumph Street Triple 765 R insured for with no experience. (Only passed test in August last year) I’m 50 and they charged me £579.80 fully comp.

Hastings have been goos in the past and also came up as one of cheapest in the comparison sites. I rang them direct but there was limited flex.

Don’t mess with the Bots on insurance websites.

Not bikes this time but my X3 which is currently with Churchill. Renewal email arrived showing a renewal price with a saving of £60 on last year. Out of idle curiosity I asked the Bot what the price would be if I deleted my additional driver. That will be an extra £125. Which the Bot couldn’t reverse. One telephone call sorted it and my new renewal is now £90 below last year. Result, eventually.

House insurance this year went up £300.
Nothing changed, no new claims etc in the last 12 months.

One of our cars insurance just renewed.
I accepted the renewal quote seeing as it was £60 under last year.

You can't predict insurance prices as they really are a law unto themselves!
Irrespective of the renewal quote rise, a phone call is ALWAYS productive in my experience ;)

Yep, I sometimes wonder if they have a tombola number machine coming up with the quotes.

Recently had an email from SAGA inviting me to get a quote on their website. Went through the usual rigmarole only for it to fall over right at the end so I rang them and repeated the process with one of their “advisers”. The result was twice what Churchill are asking, over a grand.

House insurance is due end of next month so fun and games yet again also with Churchill. But they did knock £50 off last year when I reminded them that a month previously I had shelled out a goodly amount of crinkle on my car insurance.

On the house insurance @Baza all I can say is when we had a major water escape in the loft ( float ball came off the arm, overflow couldn't keep up with mains 15mm inlet) AXA were efficient and acted accordingly.
In all seven rooms were damaged.

This year my renewal was just over £500 and I was happy to pay that for peace of mind.

When it all goes t1ts up will your insurance payout?

    AXA did!

I’m happy with Churchill as they are a well known entity in the insurance world. Having spoken to them again today i am now £124 less than last year’s premium for the X3. :grinning:

We all know quoted prices vary: Age, experience, where you live, if you have your bike chained to a Gorilla or not etc. etc. But something I've found worth doing is picking up the phone and speaking to a human who works for your current insurer come renewal time. My Street Triple policy is due for renewal early next month. The renewal quoted price wasn't actually that bad and whilst I did go on comparison sites to look for a cheaper rate, they couldn't do any better. Rather than just pay on line the quoted renewal, I rang them up and asked if they could get the price down. Ten minutes on the phone saved me £20. It might not work for everyone, but it's worked for me both with the bike and my car in recent months.
