Has anyone made an insurance claim on their motorcycle policy which uses a claims agency?

I am with Bennetts, but they use a claims agent, 4th Dimension who also take the bike away and undertake the repairs. The system seems incredibly complicated - they could not get any contact with the 3rd party, who I think is to blame, so I have claimed on my comprehensive policy, accepting the excess payment. There are pick up charges, storage charges, and now talk of legal proceedings against the other driver to recover these.

They have said I will not have any costs to pay, but I think this should all be dealt with by my comprehensive policy without bothering me with forms and requests for signatures - any thoughts?

To top it all, they are still waiting for parts to do the repairs... Speed 400, coming from India??

Be careful if they offer you a lease bike in the meantime. My mate was knocked off his Thruxton a couple of years ago and had a couple of Yamaha`s while his was getting repaired. The bill came to over £30 000! Fortunately he was covered but some folk aren`t so lucky.

@ajc400 I think that is a whole load of old tosh. I had that lot a few years ago who said I had to gain the police report which we all know the police do not release the report to the public. They would not help in any way and I lost a case where a driver knocked me of by nudging my bike as I filtered. I had witnesses but they didn't even try to contact them. I contacted Bulldog and ask them to carry out the repairs which they accepted so I told Carole Nash who agreed so i called the Carole Nash breakdown service in the policy and they did the delivery free of charge.

I'm with Bennetts, had an off in Scotland a few years back, 4th dimension transported it back to their assessors which were a few miles from where I live. They had told me I could leave al my gear in the panniers etc but when I tried getting to my bike to collect the stuff it was all being dealt with by a 3rd party and I had real trouble tracking it down, eventually got to it as they were loading it onto an artic to be taken to a breakers in Wales. Apart from that they paid me the full amount it was insured for.
I have heard though that it can take an age for repairs to be done, the problem being that if any part has a slight scratch or blemish they will replace it for new so it comes down to the availability of the new parts. Hopefully I'm wrong on that part

Yes, I knew that the loan bike would be a black hole and turned it down.

Once you report the accident the Bennetts phone number goes straight to 4th Dimension, so I couldn't get an alternative to them taking the bike for repair. I'm not sure they have tried very hard to contact the other side so at the moment I have accepted that I'll be paying my policy excess and losing a bit of my no-claims bonus.

Sounds like a warning to steer clear of Bennetts.

When I made a small claim on my Bonnie from a sub 10mph drop it ended up going to 4th Dimension. I was very worried once I researched them but in my case they were quite good. Resprayed the tank in my chosen colour, but did take ages to process, though this was during covid lockdown. There was only minor scrape damage and the bike came back very well repaired as far as I can tell. Having said that I have seen lots of really bad reviews on 4th Dimension.

I don't think it is the broker, e.g. Bennetts that determine if the bike goes to 4th Dimension, but the actual insurers which is likely to be MarkerStudy. Not sure if they are still called that but they are one of the biggest, if not the biggest, motorcycle insurer. Regardless, you can insist on sending your bike to whatever repair shop or garage you want in any case if that's your choice, just need to ensure that happens at the scene which can be difficult given the cicumstances. I'd get the bike recovered to my house or a known garage you trust if you are in a position to do so and take it from there.

These claims agents are a bunch of bloody crooks. Not the bike but the car, someone reversed into my rear side quarter. The claims crew organised a replacement vehicle and would have done a personal injury claim if I’d wanted.

It’s only when you see the numbers they are putting to the other party do you understand what they are up to. The car hire rate was astronomical as were their other costs. BUT if the other party don’t cough up you will have to foot the bill. So be very careful.

I have to say that I found 4th Dimension superb when my two week old Bonnie was written off last year. That said it was treated as a new bike for replacement purposes and all the extras included on the original Triumph invoice were covered too.

A few years ago someone reversed into my wife's car while it was parked. She saw it happen so we had their details. Only a small dent and scratch so I got a quote to have it repaired for about £200 if I remember correctly. Went round to the house of the person who hit the car and he was really shitty with me and said it would go thtrough the insurance. So it did and it cost his insurers about £2,000. Madness!

Yes, serves him right for his attitude and he will have lost a few years NCB.

I had just pulled into a parking space between two other cars in my X3 when the lady on my left reversed out on full left lock scraping my bumper, wing and front passenger door. She was very apologetic and asked for it not to go through her insurance.

I agreed as that gave me free choice on repairer as there is a small paint shop 3 miles away that Aston Martin, 4 miles in the other direction, entrust all of their body work remedials to. Total cost £840 and your guy’s insurers paid more than twice that for a small dent. Some people just seem to complicate things, whether it’s embarrassment or refusing to accept that they are wrong, I don’t know.
