Whats The Last Thing You Bought?

The only white helmet I've had was the Shoei RF-1200 I just retired. It wasn't completely white as it had some black and some red graphics but the primary color was white. I pretty much just wore that helmet on my Speed Triple and never really do long miles on that bike. It will be interesting when our scalding summer temps hit (right around the corner, I'm afraid) to see the difference between my white helmet and my black. In addition to being my Speed Triple and my Low Rider ST helmet, it may just become my "Summer Helmet"!

 

The Neotec 2 is also "approved" for riding with the front flipped which I find very useful in town and in hot weather. Not all modular helmets have this. Obviously this will reduce crash protection in a spill and also massively increases wind resistance and noise at speed. If the chinstrap is labelled P/J it has flipped riding approval but not with just a P rating.

 

Latest addition to the tool shed. Top quality kit IMO, now made in the PRC.

 

A mate bought a Milwaukee battery impact gun. It beats my pneumatic CP gun which was our benchmark previously.
Very powerful but at the last attempt, when removing the rear wheel ( single nut) on his Ducati, even that couldn't undo it

 

This is my 2nd drill. Nothing wrong with the one I already have but a second drill comes in handy sometimes when you're drilling and screwing!
I also have an 18v impact wrench with almost 1500Nm of slackening torque and it's not been defeated yet, everything from big seized suspension bolts on the 4x4 to a really seized swingarm bolt on the Husaberg. Mind you it was almost £500, even after a discount at a promotional event at a local dealer some years ago with all the razzmatazz and some gorgeous Milwaukee dolly birds!

new Aria today. So impressed by my last Quantic I decided to swap it for the same. Got the new one only for the salesman in Infinity to say you know your hat was good for at least seven years. Bless him he said if I wanted to cancel it would be fine.

So my eldest lad now has a 125 for transport and practice prior to his DAS mod 1 in a few weeks.
The clutch started playing up and seeing as the bike came with a Haynes manual I said, "have a read through, note anything special etc. then buy the neccessary items?".

Did he?

He arrives with parts....... so the stripdown started and we had a bit of Father and Son time together.

Cover off and, umm, this oil housing inside the cover needs a special peg socket and has to be removed to get the basket off.
Did you buy one?

Ok, you have a bit of hacksaw and filing to do, says I.

I spun an old socket up in the lathe that I'd welded a suitable size nut to. With the lugs scribed onto the finished diameters I left him to it.







Not a bad effort really is it?

It did the job at the first proper attempt and allowed progression and completion that day.


Note the peg socket on the end of the strongbar.

Ok so he could've/should've bought one for £20 or so but where's the fun in that!!!

 

I made something similar a while back to remove the fork caps on the Husaberg. Just an old socket with some suitably sized old drill bits cutdown and welded on, crude but effective. I didn't have the "special" tool, no one local had one and it was around £25 mail order. Needs must and all that!

 

Not bad at all @Pegscraper pretty useful tools and the tools you make are always the best. You're Boy will learn. We were all there and we coped. Good luck to him and hope his test goes well.

 

I think you might have got me mixed up with Eldon there Joe!
I can't see Eldon Jnr having any problem with his test, not just because of his off road trials experience but because he appears to have a genuine enthusiasm for anything with 2 wheels and an engine. Obviously a chip off Eldon Snr's block!

 

Sorry @Pegscraper But you did make the fork tool so you are still a smart cookie. And @Eldon clever Son you have there and still wishing him lots of luck on the old test.

 

The last Item is the scanner listed below. It works well with my 2002 Sprint ST. I have not had a need to connect the 2018 Bonneville T100. It is Bluetooth only for android and apple.

@Pegscraper, @Eldon, you guys and a few others on here truly amaze me. Wish you lived closer...

 

I reckon I would quite like life in dry, sunny Arizona Sandi, up to a point, that point being around 80deg. Certainly, anything approaching 90 would have me heading for the first plane back home!

 

Well he's passed that so his next bit of paper gets him a full licence...... did I mention he's having the 675r?

You might be surprised at how the high temperatures feel different in the desert, @Pegscraper. I always say that 80º feels like 70ª and 90º feels like 80º. You get the picture. It really does make a different that "it's a dry heat". On the other hand, an oven is a dry heat, too. Sounds like you need to come visit between late October and mid-April to hit that 80º sweet spot! I do have to add that it's nice to live someplace where you can ride most any and every day of the year if you're willing to dress warmly (or ride later in the day) during the winter and ride early in the morning in the summer. The days that it's raining when you wake up and want to go for a ride are far and few between. On average, Tucson gets 350 sunny days a year!

 

Congratulations to your eldest lad, @Eldon! And....does he realize how lucky he is to get that 675r??? That bike is a beauty. If he turns it down or decides on something else, I'll take the bike.
