Hey my first Triumph is scrambler 400 X and i am so much in love with it in 4000 kms and 4 months. i love the growl and low end torque. i am impatient and want to upgrade. The SC1200 and 900 make my heart skip a beat, yet everyome make me worry about heat. Look all you guys are from colder countries, me I am from New Delhi amd summers are a killer. we dont ride during the day when its peak hot og 48 to 50 Deg C but ride at nights. we pass through some small cities and hit the highways to the mountains, so during the villages or before the highway traffic is there and they say i will burn my thigh in the heat from the CAT. anyone here has ridden this bike in a hot country?
I'm in the UK, had a 900 and now have a 1200 and have not had issues with exhaust heat on the hottest days we have here which are now touching 30deg, a fair way off your 48-50 deg I admit but still very uncomfortable in full riding gear and heavy traffic. I reckon it could be an issue If you have short legs, fortunately I have a 34" inseam so my legs are clear of the exhaust while riding.
@Arvind Bhatnagar I think you will find Triumph has researched this. And I am sure if they have released the bike in New Delhi then it all right. And all this burning your leg is rubbish. Yes it gets hotter but with the shield and bits its going to be fine. You want the bike then contact a dealer and take a good test ride then you will know for sure. Welcome to the family by the way. Do please let us know how you get on.
A friend rides the scrambler 1200, we did a 6000km round trip in weather below 20°C he did not struggle at all In the summer and riding in the city with temps above 35°C he prefers not to do it as the heat becomes rather uncomfortable, he does not get burn just chooses to ride in less warm conditions.
many thanks for your feedback. much appreciated. I have been reading that since 2022 they moved the CAT back inside the exaust so rider is not getting hot. do you own 2022 and above model sir? i am 5'10" and 32 inseam
yes dreaming for it just scared of heat and no test rides in India for bigger bikes. Now trying to track any owners of this model in delhi
thanks for your message. I will buy it but the test ride is an issue the dealers dont give you bigger bikes for test rides. arent on display too. but as you said they must have sorted it out. already in 2022 the moved the cat from thigh area to the mufflers, hence should be sorted. i am tempted for Tiger 900 but my heart skips a beat when i even see the image of 1200 Scrambler, and i have to have it. but i cant afford to keep my scrambler 400 and the new one, hence doubts. but anyway will sort it out
I've had a 2020 and a 2023 Street Scrambler 900 and currently have a 2024 Scrambler 1200 and I can't say that I noticed any appreciable difference in exhaust heat between any of them. Triumph did indeed move the CAT further back in exhaust from 2023 onwards. I bought a Scrambler 1200X which is much closer in ride and ergonomics to a Street Scrambler than the, supposedly, off road focused XE model and feels just like a 1200 version of that bike which is just what I wanted. As nice as the 900 is to ride, the 1200 engine is a great unit with bags of lowdown torque.
A classic bike known to give the rider a hot time is the Panigale. TMF had one for a while and effected a solution which involved the use of ceramic insulation, similar to the brickettes used when doing some brazing, glued to the underside of the heat shield. Not pretty but you don’t see it.
I had a 1198SP, briefly, in 2011 and that was very uncomfortable when hot with the underseat exhaust and CAT. I fitted a polished alloy shield underneath the seat which made a slight difference but you still got Betty Swallocks on a long ride. My previous '04 R1 also had underseat pipes but heat was never an issue.
