Have the valve clearances been checked? Can cause bad starting.

 

Generally bearings have a number stamped around the outside-eg 6204 which is a common wheel bearing. Failing that get yourself a vernier caliper and measure inside and outside diameters, and depth. You can cross check these at a bearing supplier to hopefully track down the correct bearing. This will give you a reference to search. Try people like Simply Bearings, they're pretty good. Good luck

BTW is that how the bearing is supplied? I'd have expected it to be contained within an outer race, surely can't go straight into an engine casting like that....

A sprag clutch bearing is completely different from an ordinary roller bearing, the rollers are an eccentric shape designed to transmit drive in one direction only,( the starter can turn the engine but not the other way round) they are a special item not usually supplied by bearing factors.

 

Fair enough. You can't win a coconut every time l guess. I wonder who makes them then....?

 

The last one l bought was for an apprila 650, can't remember the price, but an identical item for a BMW f650 was much cheaper!
In my experience they come as part of the starter clutch assembly,l cannot confirm who actually makes them but I'm pretty sure they are "bought in" by motorcycle manufacturers.
