1995 Thunderbird Misfires On #1 And The Tach Reads Zero At Idle

    I've swapped coils and spark plugs, but no help. Tach seems to display correctly above idle and #1 seems to fire correctly on acceleration, butisgires on deceleration. The carbs have been rebuilt and synced, again no help. Any suggestions would be appreciated. My next step is to look for a bad ground related to the tach and #1.

    Life has gotten on the way of getting back to my T-bird, but I received and installed a new crankshaft sensor but there's no change. Not quite sure where to go next, but think I will start by rechecking all the wires. Apparently no one makes an aftermarket system for these triples...has anyone broken the code on how to keep one running if the module is bad?

    You installed a new cps, did you check the gap? I believe it has to be a certain setting, not just replaced. Number 1 cylinder supplies the power to the tacho I believe.
    I would go over battery connections, all coil connections, cleaning them then spray with wd40 or equivalent, including plug caps, I know you have new plugs but are they the correct ones and are the legit, we all know ebay ripoff? Then it's coils, there's a guy who supplies coil packs which work great. Paul Messenger on T300 facebook page, I think he is in here too as t552 but not sure he has been around recently.

    Thanks for the response. I gapped it at 0.663mm (Tolerance was 0.6-08). I swapped #3 & #1 coils complete & spark plugs with no change ohm'd all the wiring - all checked good. Just for grins I will swap #1 & #2 just in case and will as you say check all wiring again, cleaning them as I go. some have mentioned that it could be a sticky valve, but I don' see how that could affect the Tach, which is indeed supplied by #1.

    The only thing I think is left if the above fails is the Ignition module... I would love to find a schematic for the internal module itself, but that will have to wait until I check everything else again...

    On the awesome side, after 2+ years (only because of life getting in the way) I finally finished my engine rebuild and was able to start my 71 Norton commando today...what a lovely sound!
