Hi everyone! I'm a newbie from Cambridgeshire with several boxes of bits which should be a 1960 Tiger Cub T20. (I have a V5C and a certificate of dating so hopefully it will actually be that!). I'm sorting though what I've got and what's missing and I think I need a carb. I have a Keihin carb - but early research says that's not right. I've seen different types of Amul carbs suggested (375/44 and 376) as well as the Zenith 17MXZ-CS5 also a Mikuni VM22-133 and a Dellorto PHBL22 - both of which need converting. Could anyone help me with carb recommendations please? Geffers
Hi and welcome to the family. Do hit the upload a file button and send some pictures of what you have got and i am sure there are at least two or three people who will have you sorted in no time at all.
Thanks Joe. Attached is a photo of two carbs I got with my kit of parts. I’m pretty sure the Kehin carb isn’t from my Tiger Cub but I’m not sure about the Amul. Can anyone help with this? Also with carb recommendations for a T20?
You're right about those two carburettor parts - they're NOT from a Cub! Your Cub would have been fitted with an AMAL carb though I'm afraid I don't know enough to say which model and spec. would be correct for that model/year. If you contact Burlen Ltd | Vintage and Classic Vehicle Fuel System Specialist they will almost certainly be able to help, advise and supply the correct parts for your machine. I'd also recommend that you contact and subscribe to Home - Old Bike Mart as it's an invaluable source of information on suppliers of parts (new and used) for, in particular, older British machines. Good luck with it - be interested to see how you get on.
hi geffers wiki says your 1960 T20 used a zenith. i would not go that way, as the zenith is as obsolete as they come. cobtact burlen about your machine. they can not only recommend a replacement, but they will have whatever you need for sale new. https://amalcarb.co.uk on my old stuff, i use VM mikunis everywhere they will fit, as they are excellent carbs and are easy to set up. but they are not original to 1960, having shown up in the mid 1970s.
Hi Geffers I had a ‘61 Cub from new and its original fitment was a Zenith carburettor. Also at the time a friend had a ‘60 Cub and which was also a Zenith. This is confirmed in the ‘Triumph Tiger Cub Bible’ which is a mine of information for Cub restorers. I’d recommend it to you to obtain a copy if you haven’t already. For a T20 it refers to a Zenith 18MXZ-C17. 9.5mm. They have recently been reprinted. Also a recommended source specialising in TC parts is Greystone Enterprises. Pics are good. Hth
Hi DaveQ, Thanks for your message. I’ve just ordered a copy of ‘the bible’ which looks like it will be really useful. I’ve already found Greystone and they sent me a parts list with prices - no doubt I’ll be placing orders soon! Geffers
