Hello, guys first of all i'm from Brazil so sorry for any writing mistake i might commit. I'm having a problem with my Tiger Sport 660, it has 9500 km now. After i ride for about 25 minutes at least, turn the motorcycle off and then, after 5/10 minutes, start it again, it makes a terrible sound during some seconds in the right side of the engine. It seems to be the timing chain (i don't know if this is the right way to write in English the name of this component). I took my bike to Triumph and they said the noise is normal, because the tensor of the timing chain is hydraulic and the oil comes out when the bikes is turned off, so can't provide the correct tension for some seconds after the start. My question: is this really normal? The noise is very loud, kind of embarrassing. Despite the noise, this could be bad for my engine?
Wow not heard this one before. I have just traded my TS 660 which did use more oil than I was comfortable with. I would video the problem and then email the video to the triumph factory and ask them for a comment. PS: welcome to the forum.
Have you checked the oil level. There has been a lot of talk lately about the 660's losing oil. And if i remember right there was a topic on here somewhere about the noise. Also take it you start the bike without throttle or revving for at least a minute while it loads up the memory. Do hit the upload a file button bottom right corner and show the inmates your bike.
The older 675 motor which I have can rattle the camchain tensioner for a short while, say 10 seconds, if its not been started for a few months. What exasperates it, is if the bike was parked on its sidestand on the left, with the tensioner being on the right. I put this down to leakdown of engine oil with it being an hydraulic tensioner. What temperature are you experiencing in Brazil and what grade of oil are you using?
