765 Evotech Pillion Foot Peg Blanking Plates

I have just fitted these to my Street Triple R. They do exactly what they say on the box, so no complaint about the product, but what a faff to fit, entirely due to the bike design.

You have to remove both seats and the battery.

The existing footpeg bolts have a 12mm head. The shorter replacement bolts have a 13mm head.

You can undo the existing bolts with a ring or combination spanner but be careful as you won’t get full engagement with the bolt head and they are on pretty tight. You will need a socket for the replacements and a universal drive joint for the rear two. I suggest using the socket in your fingers to get the replacement bolts started as I could see that it would be very easy to cross thread them.

The battery strap can become completely detached. You do not want it to come out of its front hook on the battery tray otherwise you will have to pull the two adjacent relays in order to get you fingers down there to reattach it.

Finally, you may find that the battery terminal screw is just not long enough to reach the captive nut in the battery terminal. I packed under the nut with a folded piece of tissue that I could then pull out once I had started the thread.

Even with the nut within the screws reach you may experience difficulty in starting the thread. I teased the captive nut out of the terminal and then screwed and unscrewed the screw into it until it felt smooth with no catching or resistance felt.

Otherwise, a big improvement to appearance, to be further enhanced with the Evotech tail tidy.

 

Just a quick follow up. I will need to remove the battery once more and have a permanent solution to the short battery terminal screws.

In order to keep the captive nut within reach of the battery screws I intend to pack under the nut with a small piece of sheet lead such as that used for flashings on roofs.

Being so soft if the screw needs to indent the lead packing it can easily do so.

 

Agreed, but as I had some sheet lead to hand I decided to maximise the electrical contact area of the connection.
