Featured New Thruxton Rs Fe

I have taken delivery of the replacement for my thoroughly enjoyed white Thruxton R last Wednesday.
Having done 19000 miles on my white Thruxton R, I was somewhat reluctant to pay the premium for the FE model but seeing it in the tin I am so very glad I did. Photos just do not seem to do the finish justice.
The team at KC Superbikes gave me a great deal and did an excellent job of swapping over all the parts from my previous bike (tail tidy, levers and LED indicators) and got me on my way within a couple of hours.
Just 300 miles in and one puncture later ! the bike is very different from the R, the motor is smoother and
more eager ( even at running in revs), the suspension on standard settings feels much more compliant.
I am guessing that this, the third Thruxton I have owned, will be a keeper due to Triumph's decision on ceasing production of this biking icon. Roll on the rest of summer.

I too was more than chuffed with my white Thruxton R and would have kept it for another year before its higher than average mileage became a negative trade-in issue. However with the news that the model was being discontinued by Triumph I was concerned that I would not be able to get another one.

To answer your question I must admit I was very surprised at the significant difference between the R and the RS. Bearing in mind the bike has only done 300 miles, during the rides so far I have really noticed the extra thrust even below 4000 rpm. There is a much greater change between Road and Sport modes compare with the R. I have not yet put my Vance & Hines cans on so I do not know if they will make any difference. One other small change worth noting is when you select a riding mode it stays in the selected mode until you reset it.

KC Superbikes did a great job of efficiently swapping over all my "bits" from the R. The tail tidy had to be slightly altered to fit, everything else fitted easily and I have been told the exhaust cans should fit as well.

Not done too much to the bike it just suits my riding the way it is.
I have put on the Vance & Hines end cans ( Nice sound but not rude!)
I have had my lower comfort saddle re upholstered in leather by a local bloke "SPM leathers" who did a great job at a brilliant price.
I have added gold pinstripes to the fairing to match the ones on the tank and tail. To my old eyes it now looks much more part of the bike rather than an add on part.
Just shy of 5000 miles in and I continue to think this is a real Keeper. Lots of riding in the last week or so due to the brilliant weather up this way. I always return with a huge grin the bike makes you feel like you have had a proper RIDE . Sometimes massively powerful modern sports bike make you feel that you have only been a passenger and not really troubled its potential.
First set of tyres replaced after 1800 miles RR Metzelers, just did not get on with them at all. Funny because I have used them before on other bikes and thought they were Bob On. Maybe the OE tyres are not the same construction / compound mix? I just could not get any real "feel" from them.
Replaced with Dulop Roadsmart 3 for autumn / spring riding.
Slight puzzle with the engine management light coming on took a while for KC Superbikes to find out what it was the cause. Would you believe a "stretched" front brake light wire!! All sorted and no puzzles since. The EML light made no difference to the ride other than the orange light was distracting and you can not change modes when it is lit, a touch worrying if you get caught out on a spirited section in a downpour.
