I'm relocating the rear brake caliper on my 08 Scrambler so that it sits above the swing arm. I'll need a slightly longer hose than the current item and had assumed only the Scrambler had the caliper located below so thought I could just buy a hose from an 08 Bonnie but it seems I'm wrong. So anybody know which hose I should be looking for?? Tks.
I'd be inclined to contact someone like HEL. They'll do you a bespoke item for no more than you'd pay buying basically a guess off Triumph. They've done hoses for me and I have nothing but praise for them.
I've used HEL lines on several bikes, great quality. I just thought somebody might know of a ready made Triumph part, although a search of WoT showed nothing. Why on earth did Triumph decide to fit underslung calipers on so many models?!
Underslung calipers are not unusual on road bikes where ground clearance isn't going to be an issue, unlike a machine aimed at off road use where it could get scraped off on a rock. My Street Scrambler also had an underslung rear caliper but, let's be honest, they're only scramblers by name and not designed or intended for any "proper' off road use. Curiously my new 1200 Scrambler has the caliper mounted above the swingarm but I still wouldn't do anything more than a mild green lane on it. On your hose question, I'd also go with having one made up to your own measurements , then you know it will fit and will, probablybe cheaper.
Don't worry I'm not thinking about taking the bike offroad! The caliper just collects so much crud on every ride (Devon lanes have a high muck ratio!) I've decided to put some effort into improving the situation rather than having to deep clean the thing so often......
I went with HEL in the end, great service and the adjustability of the banjos made the job go smoothly. I just couldn't see how the OEM hose I have could be safely rerouted and reach the caliper...... I'm pleased to have done the job - when I took the caliper off it looked a right mess so I did the third strip and clean I've done in the 3 years I've owned it. Hopefully sitting above the swingarm will keep things cleaner for longer!
