Hi there, I am obviously new to this forum, but I have owned my Speed Twin for around 7 months now. (Been biking for 36yrs).
I have done a few mods to the Speed Twin, which I'm sure have been done by most, as they are the usual things.
However, on purchasing the Twin, I was surprised to learn that there were no suitable grabrail options.
    Triumph don't list one,
Renntec make a squared off one
Motone make one that will probably fit if you butcher it,
And, you can get a cheap Chinese copy of the Motone if you like poor quality.
This led me to take some measurements and design my own.
I can't take credit for any of the manufacturing, because a friend of mine who is an experienced engineer, has made the item, but 1) I wanted your opinions and 2) I wondered if anyone had discovered the same problem, and would be interested in one ?

    This is the item.
It fits first time, and looks suited to the bike (to my eye).

    See what you think.

Triumph do list one, part number A9758342, for the 900 but not the 1200 so I assume you have the latter, plus it's £130 which is a LOT for a bit of bent pipe with two brackets IMO and yours looks fine anyway. I love a bit of metalworking. I made a rear carrier for my old Street Scrambler because I didn't like either the shape or the price of the available options.

That's exactly the thing. The only option that I'm aware of for the 1200, is the Renntec option which will fit 'out of the box'. However, to my eye, the 1200 is a very 'rounded' bike, and the Renntec rail is very square. It just doesn't look right to me.
The only other options need to be hacked around to fit, which I feel is kind of pointless.
The main thing that confuses me is why Triumph have not made one as an accessory. The mounting points are there on the subframe !!!

Anyway, if anyone would like one made, send me a DM, and I'll see what I can do. I'm not sure on a price yet, but the materials for mine cost £40, and then there is the time to cut, form and weld by my friend. It's hard to know what is a reasonable cost ?

I would have thought the need for a grab rail on the 1200 is much higher than on the 900!:joy:

Nice result, I did a similar idea out of stainless for my 675r.
Here it is finished but prior to polishing.

I already had the tube and sheet so I reckoned the cost of the pipebender paid for itself in this one job.

This was the rack I made up for the SS which cost around £15 for the tubing. Other bits of steel I had lying around and I brush painted it initially but it looked crap so I had it powder coated at the same time as some engine bars I was having done. OK so I've just bought the Triumph rack for the 1200 as making one to fit was a lot more involved/expensive than for the SS, it's Aluminium/Aloominum, I really liked the look of it and I got it almost £100 off list price so decided I couldn't be bothered.
