Speed 400

I just sat on it at a motorcycle exhibition last weekend. Typically Triumph feeling with light weight.

 

Looked at my 1st one at Triumph Chester UK today....quite impressed.....looks Triumph Quality.

 

Had a test ride on one on a damp day in January. Loved it. Bought one.

 

One of the new members here has purchased one and going through the break in period

 

I picked my Speed 400 up on March 8th. A good option for myself, a smaller/lighter bike is necessary so I can keep riding. I want a few changes but this bike is capable of my riding desires. 58 years of riding experience.

 

Ordered mine Dec 2 in Ottawa, Canada. Dealer said they were expected in January. Now it's 1 April and still no bike. I've seen YouTubes of them in the US but not Canada. Anyone else get their's in North America?

Good to read the years of experience! I'm suddenly 70 years old (how did that happen???) - did about 1.2 million km on 50+ bikes - also 58 years on bikes. Got off the heavy bikes a few years ago. Now riding a Super Duke R 1290 and a Speed Twin 1200. Regards & keep on riding!!

 

Hopefully going to have a test on one today at Edinburgh Triumph as I’ve a little daytime time on my hands…

 

How did it go?

 

Well, it went well, quite an interesting ride and a very willing engine. I was impressed with the fact it was just a 400 as I’ve had plenty of singles that didn’t jump to the note but this one did. I managed 96mph and it must have taken half a mile to get from 90 to 96mph. Anything over 70mph and the lcd Rev counter stops counting and flashes in anger to say slow down but saying that it really likes the open roads and it made me feel good killing it!

On the negative side, it’s smoothness makes it not a town bike which unfortunately I found it to be snatchy. That’ll become tiring fast as we get more road congestion these days. Would I spend £5k on one? No.

 

Snatchy....prob down to the horrible cat.

 

Just heard that Bike magazine have voted the Triumph 400's the second best new motorcycle of 2024.... don't know what number one is, it's a subscriber only article, but number two is pretty impressive.

Edit - number one is the Yamaha XSR900GP - a slightly different take on retro.

 

I've been lusting after the Speed 400 as a second bike, something more 'jump on and go' than my BMW R1200RS and sat on one in my local dealer. But they're selling so well, the dealer couldn't be bothered to even move off his arse to talk to me about one, zero f...ks given, so I walked out again.

Thinking of going a different route and picking up either an old Speed Four or Daytona 955i, got a thread in this forum asking folk for views and opinions because I'm torn!

 

Don't you hate lazy dealerships. When buying my last bike (ended up with a Honda CB500X) I got the same treatment at BMW and Ducati dealerships, I think because I was looking at the entry level models. Honda were great.

I got the 'can't be bothered' treatment at Honda this time, but the Triumph dealer was great. I now have a Speed 400 in the garage!

 

You should buy a 400 if thats what you really fancy and ignore the arrogant salesman. If you wanted a GS310 and the bmw dealership did same to you would you then not also deprive yourself over the ownership experience? Let the memory go and enjoy the bike

 

oh yes of course. I'm not going to let one stupid salesman put me off. I did buy the Daytona but I think I will still pick up a speed 400 in about 12 months or so

 

Took delivery of my Speed400 in April and my summary so far is that it has exceeded my expectations. Early snatchy throttle has gone away after a few hundred miles and the often reported "faults" in social media e.g. flashing tacho, engine cut-out, kill switch turning off, have eluded me. The delivery delay for the screen fitting kit was a bit of a pain though !

 

Popular or what ? ... I thought they were selling well ! This number is worldwide of course, UK, India, USA and Europe.
