Which Jeans

Just to add a little thought of my own. Not to put you off single layer jeans as i wear them myself and have Rokker, Oxford, Bull It and Hood (aramid lined) listed in order of comfort and jean like "normality".
You might want to think about something called "skin shear", i haven't seen it in relation to a motorcycle off but apparently it happens.
If the jeans or lined or you wear an undergarment the risks are greatly reduced. As I said I don't claim to practice what I preach apart from going on a multi day trip.

 

That’s interesting; thanks for that. Seems Hood don’t like making single layer jeans for that very reason. I’m hoping I never have to test them out but definitely worth considering.

 

I agree, stretchy too which helps getting on and off the bike - struggle these days when wearing my Hood jeans!

 

I have the ladies' Taranis; I am pretty pleased with them.

 

I'd like to thank you for this, actually. I've had awful luck in the past with bike jeans; they generally fit really badly and in fact I've just had to return both the Rocker and Roadskin jeans that I've mentioned elsewhere on this thread. Indeed, the only jeans that I've regarded as wearable are the Spdi _ Trackers, as these are genuinely cut like ordinary casual jeans, rather than denim arse-tents.

Anyway, your post resulted in my checking out and then buying the 3rd gen Pando Moto AAA leggings, which are due to arrive tomorrow. Assuming they fit okay then I'm done with the whole bike jeans lottery and will just wear regular, properly fitting jeans in future, with the leggings underneath.

All being well, that'll be a pint I owe you.

I'm just passing on what was recommended to me.
Generally if I buy anything I spend time looking at the issues and comparing it to my own experience.

eg. single layer is never a good idea, especially as you get older, as connective tissue gets weaker. Many injuries from a slides are from delamination of the tissues not just the impact and abrasion. Plus I was never happy with the way the armor on the knees of loose fitting jeans flapped about so that the probability of them being between your knee and the road in the case of impact was reduced.

Ultimately a multilayer abrasion resistant, form fitting bike pant will be safest, but I want the best option for wearing jeans.1. because thy are more comfortable on warmer rides, and 2, because I like to carry the minimum if I can get away with it.

Everything is a compromise and you have to take the risk v reward balance for yourself.

I bought my first kevlar jeans when they first came out (Hood), and have had several pairs including some combats from ICON. When I saw videos and recommendations on the Pando leggings it was like an ever present itch had been scratched for me. I've worn them all this year including two cross country trips of app 700 miles each way, even during our 28C Heat (don't make me laugh) wave.

I received my Rokker Revolution AAA jeans today and have to say the quality is outstanding. Comes with a T shirt, storage bag and SAS Tech level 1 knee and hip armour. However I will probably upgrade to D3O level 2 armour at some point; this might them a little more bulky. I wear a 32 waist and 30 leg in Levi’s and I find the Rokker waist is a little more generous. I could have probably gone down to a 31 or 30 waist but this was the smallest they had in stock and at least I have a little room for a couple of pies lol. Trying them on you notice they are stiffer than regular Levi’s but I expected this. Hoping they will loosen up after a bit use. Got to admit they look really good on. You wouldn’t know they are motorcycle jeans let alone AAA waterproof jeans. I would happily wear them to the pub. Time will tell how i get on with them and yes they are expensive for jeans. But the quality I feel justifies the cost so I am happy.

 

Hey, @Carl556. Glad you got your jeans and are happy with them at this point. I've found that mine loosen up quite a bit after wearing them. That process is repeated after I wash them. I do NOT wash them after every ride but hang them up where they can air out. I even watched a video on Revzilla.com that recommended folding them up and putting them in the freezer over night to kill of whatever might be lurking. I'd say I wash them (and hang dry NOT in the sun) about every 3 or 4 wears depending on the time (and temperature) of the year. Interesting that yours came with the SAS Tech armor. My newest pairs came with the D3O "Ghost" armor which I really like. It's probably still Level 1 but I've tried level 2 and just can't wear it for how uncomfortable and distracting it is. I figure Level 1 is better than no armor. I agree that they don't really look like motorcycle jeans. Mine are not waterproof, so I'm curious about that. Please keep us posted with your thoughts and assessment. Oh, one more thing. I still have my original pair of Rokkers (they were the double layer version) and was trying to figure out how many years and miles I put on them. I probably have worn them for 7 or 8 years and have literally thousands and thousands of miles on them. They are quite faded and there are a couple of rubbed holes in the front of the thighs but the lining is fully intact. I just figure the holes give my jeans that "high fashion" look.
