OK just to give you a heads up, should any of you good people be in Alford Lincolnshire over the next 2 weeks. My better half, and her club that she belongs to have since January been knitting and crocheting thousands of poppies to raise money for the Royal British Legion, and Poppy appeal. To date she's raised over £1000. We've spent the best part of today putting the display up that you'll see below. We've got a Fish and Chip and quiz night coming up, to raise more money. The tickets are going rather well too. The event is taking place at the Alford Corn Exchange. So if you fancy a ride out, we're doing Tea and Coffee mornings and bacon butties too. We've still got a bit more to do on the stage, but I think you get the gist of it. Anyway here's some pictures for you, well a lot actually. Well it wouldn't be me if I didn't go overboard with the pictures.
Brilliant effort all round. The Poppy Appeal is dear to my heart as my grandfather is buried in France. One of my sons has just bought me this appeal badge which I really like.
With all the poppies that are outside, and the one's inside, the figure is close to 7000, all been knitted since January. Going live tomorrow, some people saw it today and were taken aback by it all. One woman said to Pat that she's lived in Alford all her life, and has never seen anything like it. Jaw dropping was how one person described it. Some more close up shots of what's around the stage. Different from the last pictures.
Your wife and her friends did an unbelievable job. I have never seen anything like that before. It is great!!! Congratulations
WOW. No half measures then? Outstanding. I was working in town when they filled the moat at the Tower of London and that was also a sight to behold.
A busy morning so far. To date we think we've raised close to £1300. We're here for another 8 days, so get yourself here. Free parking for motorcycles right outside the corn exchange.
Well I'm very happy to report that my figure of £2000, was totally incorrect. The final figure that we raised £3428.74. The Alford arts and craft circle have been presented with a certificate of thanks for all the hard work, and money raised over the last 12 days, from the Royal British Legion Here is a newspaper article about it. https://www.lincolnshireworld.com/n...of-poppies-for-remembrance-day-4397857?page=2
I just ran across this thread, @Bikerman. WOW! This is simply tremendous. Thanks for sharing about this and posting all the great photos and including the link to the news article.
When we did this last year, we ran a competition to have a walk around the Lancaster in the Heritage centre in East Kirkby. I asked the chap who won't it, if he'd send me some pictures of his visit, and here they are.
