Hi all I want to buy a really good pair of bike jeans with armour and possibly a removable warm lining. I’ve never had denim motorbike jeans before but now I’ve got a new scrambler 900 arriving soon I think I should get some. Any recommendations? Thanks
I am using two pairs of "Trilobite" biker jeans. They are great and equipped with kevlar armour and knee and hip protectors. To keep you warm you need some additional layer under them. There are some water-resistant jeans on the market too.
The main advice I can give you is to go for single layer, as opposed to lined. They’re safer, more comfortable and lighter and to my mind it’s a no-brainer these days. Lined jeans are effectively old tech. Look at the range at Motolegends, who will price match if you can find them cheaper (subject to the usual conditions). I’m not 100% sure that I agree with that, Mr V. Firstly, the ratings are either a pass or fail, so a top AA rated jean can be pretty much equivalent to a lower end AAA. Secondly, a jean that would be rated AAA can be downgraded to AA for something simple like lack of hip armour in standard form (Rokker have been a good example of this in the past). Therefore, by adding hip armour, you end up with an AAA rated equivalent jean anyway. Finally, AA rated jeans generally have a slide time good enough for riding at 50 to 60 mph (that is, the way modern classics tend to be ridden, rather than on motorways at 70-80mph, for example). If that’s what you generally do they’re normally considered to be more than adequate. It’s a complex business and it pays to do some research.

I thought they were lined. Sorry Edit: Actually, I’ve just bought a pair of the Taranis in black. They do look good, I had no black motorbike jeans and I needed a pair of rainproof over-trousers anyway!
I've got a few pairs but by far the best (imo) are the Bull-it covec jeans, AAA rated with the armour fitted (knee and hip) quite warm and thick jeans and good generous fit too.
I've bought a few in the past, but they are uncomfortable, sweaty and the armour moves about too much for safety. So I just wear regular jeans and the Pando moto skins 3 AAA rated leggings underneath. I also swapped the armour for level 2 low profile SAS -TEC. Hopefully wont be testing them.

Nope, You would think so, but they breath nicely, especially around the bits where needed the most. Even during the tropical couple of weeks of 30C+ weather we had this year. Having wore Kevlar lined jeans and cargoes in the desert (45 to 50ish) I would have preferred the leggings.

Jeans are so subjective, but for what it's worth my Oxford Approved jeans are smart enough to wear off the bike, comfortable and have armour in the knees and hips. Fortunately I don't know how good they are in a high speed crash...! As some have said, there is a lot of personal preference when it comes to riding jeans. I'm a big fan of Rokker's and have worn them for at least 10 years. I have both the older/earlier versions that were lined with dynatec fabric but prefer the newer versions which have dynatec (or something like that) woven right into the fabric and are a single layer. I add in D3O Ghost Armor and am quite comfy and happy. As @learningtofly mentioned, Rokkers can be quite pricey but I always manage to find them on great sales. FC-Moto often has terrific sales on Rokkers (and many other good brands as well) and they are based in Europe...Switzerland, I think. Looking at purchasing a set of Rokker Revolution AAA jeans. Single layer and waterproof. They are a bit pricy but I have a 10 percent code so might take the sting out a little Has anyone got experience of these jeans please? I have a pair of women’s Rokker Revolution jeans, @Carl556. But they are about 10 years old so I think the technology has changed and improved. Mine have a thin, waterproof/resistant liner in them. I wear them rarely, since I live in a desert, but when I have worn them on the occasional rainy day, they seem to work quite well. The fabric is different than that of my other Rokkers and has a little less give to it. Unless you ride where it rains frequently and are adverse to wearing rain pants, I’d probably buy a regular pair of Rokkers and throw some rain pants in my panniers/saddlebags. I found mine to be quite hot if the temperatures were at all high. They did work great if the temperatures were relatively low and it was raining. But remember, like I said, my pair are old and I suspect have somewhat outdated fabric technology.
Thanks for that Sandi. I wish we had a little more of your temperatures here in the UK lol. All we seem to get is rain and more rain! They seem expensive but having seen the quality of rokker jeans I think I’m going to pull the trigger and give them a go. I’ll let you know what they are like when they are delivered
