Tiger Sport Thinking About A Tiger 900, Either Gt Pro Or Rally Pro.

    I have a Street Triple RS which I absolutely love but lately I'm starting thinking about a second bike again. I'm thinking a Tiger 900 GT Pro or Rally Pro, basically for the wetter weather, colder months and the ability to maybe do some Scotland/Wales bigger tours next year. Now I'm never going to do loads of off-roading but maybe the odd green lane here and there so I'm wondering do I need a Rally Pro (even though I think the Green version is the best looking colour out of all the models by far).

    Am I right in thinking the Rally Pro has the quick shifter and all the same gubbins as the GT Pro.

    Anyone had a ride of both and come to conclusion's?
    pls I put Tiger Sport as there's no option to put Tiger 900.

    I took a GT Pro out on test for a few hours. On returning I immediately bought the Rally Pro. The main differences are RP has 21” front wheel, spoked wheels, longer travel suspension, better suspension, six riding modes and a few decorative parts in aluminium. It is taller though.
    The Gt Pro has electronic suspension, a 19” front wheel, cast wheels, shorter travel suspension, cheaper suspension, four riding modes and is lower.
    Both have quick shifter, heated seats, heated bars, riding lamps and are very good bikes.
    Re the difference in riding height, I’m 5’8” and can flat foot my RP with luggage on and almost without.

    Thanks Glenn, I'm 6ft 1" so the height should be fine on the taller bike, good to hear your opinion on this and appreciate it.

    Any pointers to look out for with regards to buying a Rally Pro if I go down that route?

    Some seem to have had quick shifter problems early in their ownership of new bikes (mines been fine), some didn’t, don’t like the OEM tyres. I now have Michelin Anakee adventure tyres on mine and have done a Scotland tour and Norway on them. So far they’re great. I have fitted a cool cover on the seat as 550 mile days were giving me a bit of numb bum. Again it seems to have fixed that problem. I found the screen not very good but, by accident I left it in the lowest setting after washing it and found it much better. The heated grips get a bit too hot for thin gloves on the hottest setting. The TPMS is very sensitive to just a lb or two in pressure drop.
    It’s much (63kg) lighter than my Super Tenere was. I’ve now just over 12000 miles in 18 months of ownership and I’m still happy with it. The green you like is ok but the faster white is my choice:joy::joy::joy:.

    The GT Pro is a great bike, but importantly it’s a really capable road bike. I’m not sure a 21” front wheel would give you the same versatility, so unless you intend racking up most of your miles off-road…

    Think I need to test drive both models to see the difference and which will be better suited for me.

    My Rally Pro has just over 12000 miles in the last 18 months. Over 11000 of those miles were on roads. Most GTs of similar vintage haven’t done anywhere near my mileage. The 21” front isn’t noticeable on road but it is very noticeable off road. All bikes are a compromise but the Rally Pro is for me the best of both worlds. The GT (bearing in mind I’m only 5’8”) just felt a lit cramped after my Super Tenere and my BMW R1200 GS. The RP also looks much better.

    Thanks Glenn, appreciate the comments, I do like a Triumph and currently loving my 2023 Street Triple RS but I know on colder wetter days I'll always be thinking of something which gives a bit more protection for longer runs out.

    Perhaps on open roads, but I do a lot of riding in urban environments (and with traffic) and a 21" front wheel just wouldn't cut it.

    Kudos to you for managing such a tall bike, by the way. What inseam are you?

    30” inside leg measurement. They’re not as tall as some think they are. I did initially back off the pre load to lower it a little but soon cranked it back up as I didn’t need it any lower.
    The bigger front wheel is certainly much better with the crap state of our roads as it rides potholes well.
    I certainly don’t notice any difference to my S10 or GS on the roads. They both had 19” fronts.
