I'm a Tiger 900 GT Pro owner & coming up for replacement tyres. I've had relatively few problems with the stock Metzler Tourance Next tyres (I also had them on my former Tiger 800 XRT too). However I have read good things of the Michelin Road 5's. Have any other Tiger 900 riders switched to Road 5's? If so what tyre sizes did you fit as I understand the sizes are slightly different. Did the Road 5's improve handling & stability? Any comments & opinions will be gratefully appreciated.
I'm considering the road 6 when I need to replace the anakee adventure I'm currently using here is a video of a tiger 900 rider using the road 6 sizes are discussed in the comments I currently use 110/80 in the front
my personal experience switching to the michelin anakee adventures made the bike much more stable than with the OE metzelers
That’s great information Armando. Thanks very much for YouTube link, all my questions have been answered.
Today I took delivery of a set of Michelin Road 6 tyres. I'll have then fitted by the weekend & post an update on how I get on with them after 3 sets of Metzler Tourance Next.
I’ve completed the 1st 150 miles on the new Michelin Road 6 tyres & I have to say I am very impressed indeed. I’ve done over 18,000 miles on numerous Metzler Tourance Next rubber (stock tyres) without any drama’s whatsoever. I actually consider them to be excellent tyres but needed to scratch an itch after reading so many great reviews & opinions about the Michelin Road 6’s. My initial view is that my Tiger GP Pro tips in & turns even better than before, the bike feels really planted on fast sweeping bends. Although my mileage on the new tyres is limited, I genuinely believe the overall handling of my machine has improved. I’m really looking forward to Spring & Summer to put some serious mileage on the bike, but first early impressions are excellent & I’m really pleased I made the switch.
I have used the Me I have the stock Metzeler Tourance on my 900 GT with 4,500 miles done. Always been happy with them and want to replace them with the Metzelers again. My question is I am off on a tour to Luxembourg in June involving around 1500 miles which would take the milage up to just over 6000 miles and wonder if they need replacing before the trip. Any ideas at what milage they have replaced their Metzelers ??
In the past I’ve done a minimum of 6000 miles on a set of stock Metzler’s. At this range of mileage the rear tyre had plenty of legal tread remaining, but was squared off. Ultimately the decision will rest with you, but I would think a change of tyre after the June tour would be perfectly workable.
Thanks for that Ian. I was thinking 4500 niles is too early to change the tyres so thanks for your opinion.
My pleasure Ajay. Enjoy your trip to Luxembourg. I have a 5 day trip to NI in May & a 9 day trip to the Picos de Europa in Northern Spain in June. I can’t wait.
I did Southern Ireland a few years ago on my Sprint 1050 the roads were so bad on places they shook my pannier rack to pieces. Hope they are better in the North. The Spain trip should be fantastic and its on my bucket list. Shiny side up.
I'm now 2 months in since my switch from OEM Metzler Tourance Next, to Michelin Road 6 tyres. I've completed over 1000 miles & have to report I'm really pleased with the handling of the bike, the Road 6 rubber offers the rider so much feel which leads to confidence to tip in & lean having set your position, speed & gear. I've had 3 sets of Metzler's Tourance Next tyres, 2 sets on a 2018 Tiger 800 XRT before I chopped it in, & one set on my current Tiger 900 GT Pro, all without any real issues. I would go as far as to say I shall not be returning to the stock OEM tyres in future. The only down side to the superior Michelin Road 6 tyre is the cost, I paid £276 for a set from an online supplier which is more than a set of Metzler's. The increase in monetary outlay is something that I'm more than happy to accept, the pay back is definitely in the feedback I get through the rubber which has taken my sheer enjoyment of riding my motorcycle to another level.
Thats great news Armando. I'll be very interested to read your opinion if you decide to change to the Michelin Road6's.
I used the Metzler Tourance Next 2 on my former Tiger1200. It was a great experience and had a better performance then the first model of the MTN.
I've just replaced my Metzeler stock tyres after 8400 miles. There was still a little tread left but they were dry and cracking. I'd pout new tyres on for a trip like yours.
I got new tyres but stayed with the anakee adventure for 2 reasons: 1. I sometimes go a bit offroad, or the roads are in lousy conditions and the anakee adventure handles it really well 2. I do not want something that encourages me to go any faster than I'm already riding After the install I realized my previous install was not balanced correctly the bike is now very smooth
I’m not a Tiger 900 GT pro owner myself, but I've heard positive feedback from some Tiger 900 riders who have switched to Michelin Road 5 tires. They mentioned improved handling and stability with the Road 5’s. As for the tire sizes, it’s best to consult with a professional or other Tiger 900 riders who have made the switch to get accurate information on the specific sizes they fit. Hearing from fellow riders who have firsthand experience can provide valuable insights.
I’ve always used Continental Trail Attack, from the 955i to the ’21 Tiger Sport (Trail Attack 3). Never been able to fault them at all - brilliant handling, smooth, not noisy, and the latest ones are scrubbed in and up to temp within a mile...
