Hi! I have a 2020 Bonneville T100. This summer my bike started to overheat after a half hour ride. We just changed the thermostat and I took my bike for a ride and temp light came on after an hour or so (slightly cooler weather). The weather wasn’t terribly hot to begin with and I’ve ridden in much hotter without issues. Has anyone had similar issues or experiences with their bikes? Common sensor fails etc? I do believe the fan is coming on but can’t be sure if it’s coming on before or after the temp light comes on.
I hope so haha! We went for a ride last night and the temp light comes on at the same time as the fan.
Hi Kiera, dont know if this helps but my 2016 T120 gets hot real quick, compared to any other water cooled bike I have had before across most makes. In Spring the fan comes on in temps around 18-22 C, usually in town where its stop start particularly traffic lights. Not sure if the temp light come on but Fan is noticeable at every stop. I have just assumed it was a T120 thing and it hasn't got any better or worse in 3 yrs.
Might just be an air lock ? When cold, remove coolant stopper and give all flexible hoses a right good sqeeze. Simple checks first.
Thank you for your reply. This sounds pretty much like my bike. I have an update though. Last week we went riding to test the bike after flushing the coolant and checking various other things at home. After about 25 minutes, coming back along a country road, the bike didn’t want to shift out of fifth gear. Totally stuck. Ended up taking it to the dealership and they said the shifter pawl was ground down?! That seems remarkable given I’ve only had my bike for a little over two years and it only has 4600 km on it. Riding season is pretty short here in Southern BC Canada. They are doing an update on the ECM, believing that to be the temp issue but they won’t be able to confirm that until they get the new parts in.
I know there were shifter problems on earlier water cooled twins so hopefully an easy cure for that. Unless your normal ride position has your foot slightly sitting on the shifter? try moving it down a spline from where it is now. Guessing the ECU update will probably set the lamp to a slightly higher temp and or bring in the fan at lower temp?
