Hey there, I bought my first Triumph (a T100) a few weeks ago and am loving it. The bike I picked up was well looked after, rides great and so on. But being she's a bit older (2009), I'm wondering what kind of issues I can look forward to running into with a bike of this age? Any tips and ideas of problem areas to look for? Thanks!
Just got a 2011 se myself and today it started playing up rod eit for half hour stood for an hour then it would not start just solenoid click and nothing else. Eventually got it started by messing with the gears and side stand. It them ran like a dog had to keep revs up at lights etc as it felt like it was gonna die. Then after 20 mins all was fine again. So 8 figure it is a battery or regulator starter motor thing? Bit of a rabbit hole so may send it back
Hi and welcome, if it is running fine I would not worry. As long as you look after your bike (regular servicing etc) it should be trouble free.
Failure to hot start can be crank position sensor. Also don't use the kill switch to turn off, that seems to upset them now and again. Consider upgrading battery leads which are a bit on the puny side. Halfords do some which you could just fix in parallel for simplicity. And if your battery is a bit low the ecu will prevent a start. My mate had a Sprint 900 which would crank but not fire with sidestand down. Stand up, fired up first prod. A bit for you to be getting on with...
OP-basically sound, simple bikes. I ride a 2010. Check your voltage output periodically, make sure all the main leads to ground, starter etc are good, and enjoy...
Coils can be an issue and sound like Neil Horsfall's problem, other than other bits mentioned previously, they are pretty reliable
