And so it begins, set off after work to get a few hours up the road in daylight. Went cross country from M6 junction 36 through Kendal, over Shap, then Penrith and stopping just outside Carlisle tonight.

Being from Wigan I suppose your panniers are full of pies ? :D
Have a great trip. I reckon Scotland is one of the best places to ride especially if you get some dry sunny weather.:sun:

Cracking breakfast to set me up for the day at the B&B.

    upload_2023-9-8_20-47-3.png
Hopped on the M6 to Gretna and then took the A75 through Dumfries to Crocketford then off on the A712 to New Galloway.
Turned north on the A713 to Ayr, then A78 up to Largs on to Greenock for the ferry across to Dunoon.
From there the A815, then A83 to Inveraray and A819 and A85 through Dalmally to the A82 at Clifton. Turned south passed the green wellie cafe to my B&B at Crianlarich.
Another cracking place with my bike in the garage for the night. Cracking roads and weather.

Wee tip, don't buy tickets on the ferry, get them in the shop two minutes away, they are discounted.

Today started with a small mishap - moving the bike at the B&B I was about to start her up and go out the gate when the wind blew the gate closed. Went to get off and wedge the gate when that oh shit moment of you’ve already kicked the stand up dickhead happened. Was on gravel and there was no stopping it go. Down she went in slow motion. Had to get the guy help me pick her up (even though I’d removed the right side pannier and box) she was fully fuelled and weighed a tonne. Some scratches to the engine bars, but that’s what they’re there for. So glad I moved the running lights inboard of the engine bars otherwise that would have been destroyed. No matter onwards….

Applecross was in the clouds and windy as hell, was like riding inside a ping pong ball. A driver wanted me to back up (uphill) on a really narrow bit. Put it on its stand (for a change) and went and had a word - it helps get the point across without raising your voice or being rude when you’re 6’ 3”. He backed up :D

Was glorious on the other side once I dropped below the clouds (the coast road up and round from Applecross to Shieldaig is amazing).

Hi mate… Feeling your pain !… On my trip to Ireland earlier this year, I forget I had panniers on my bike, as I don’t usually ride with them on a bike…. Tried to squeeze through an opening, forgot about the panniers, hit a post and it knocked me off my bike onto the road !!…Newly powder coated crash bars scuffed, along with my bar ends and & mirror bracket !… And I’m only 5ft 4”. Trying to pick up my 1050 speed triple, with full top box and panniers & full tank of petrol !!… NIGHTMARE !!… ‍. Glad you’re having great weather on your trip, I think it’s to continue till Thursday this week. Ride safe, enjoy the roads & views.

Oh that’s bad - I wasn’t that bothered just embarrassed and annoyed at myself. The bike had cosmetic damage to the bars and panniers when I bought it. It would have been a completely different story if I dropped my fireblade.

We've all done it. In fact, last time it happened to me I was on the floor, trapped between the bike and the fence in my front garden, with a gaggle of schoolboys pointing at me and laughing

Shit happens as they say and it happens to all of us. Your pictures bring back lots of great memories of trips i've done with guys off this forum to the very places you have pictured. My first trip over to Applecross resulted in a front wheel skid on my 1250 Bandit on a downhill tight left hander caused by the gravel that collects in the road after heavy rain. I recovered the bike but had to brake hard to avoid going off the road and down a six foot drop. The edge of the road had a thick layer of gravel and down I went. Broken mirror and lever. One of the other chaps came back to help me pick up my bike. I picked a piece of black plastic up out of the road and spent ages looking where it had broken off from. Turned out it must have been from a previous accident.

    upload_2023-9-4_20-35-17.jpeg

Beautiful sunshine for the most part, but warm and dry all the way. Ullapool bay looked glorious first thing
    upload_2023-9-4_20-35-40.jpeg

Loads of amazing scenery and brilliant roads, I’ll not bore you with all the photos I took, but some of the best for sure
