Windshield Help Needed

Do Madstad make a screen for the current Bonneville?
They are not very pretty to look at but they are adjustable and very efficient. I had one on my 800 Tiger several years ago and it was one of the best screens I have used.

 

When I bought my Bonnie recently I had the flyscreen fitted and the touring screen provided "loose". I couldn't get my head around how short it was either.

 

Are you sure you want such a large screen on a naked bike? May not look very pretty and the lack of mounting points may give you a slightly flexible top edge.

I have the OEM touring screen on my T100 which keeps a surpring amount of wind off your chest, with little to no turbulence. Having had a few test rides recently on more sports-touring type bikes I found their larger screens just buffeted my head badly, but I guess it depends on how tall you are and your riding preferences.

 

I 2nd the madstad. It is excellent at blocking the wind, I look over the top of it and there is no helmet buffeting. It was straightforward to install and it is quick release if you want to take it off. It's very adjustable for height and for angle making it easy to get it set just right for no wind buffeting.

I also had a Madstad on my Tiger800. It was the only screen I've used that impressed me, great bit of kit.

 

I have a National Cycles Street shield EX. Although it’s easy on and off and looks decent, it’s not effective in my opinion - at least not for me. There’s as much wind in my face and helmet basically with it on or off. I recently ordered the plexifaring 3, it’s quite a bit bigger but it’s effective. I only have it on when I’m going on a long ride. Here’s a pic-

AND, the Madstadt windshield mounts are barely visible when the shield is removed.

 

Got my Madstadt 22 inch high windshield (per their gauge); mounted it on my 2023 1200 Bonnie; was impressed with the precision of the mounts to the fork and ease of installation; however, there was quite a bit of helmet buffeting.

Hence, I ordered the 24 inch one from Madstadt ($100 for the shield only) and that solved the helmet buffeting; but, still got a lot of wind making it to my torso.

Figured maybe if I could add 3 more inches to the right edge and another 3 to the left edge, that would make it better. Called Madstadt to see if they could cut me one to that width. Very courteous response but they could only give me 1 1/2 inches added to each edge.

Am spoiled by the stock shield that came with my 2002 Harley Road King; that shield and its width diverted all wind away from me; like sitting in an easy chair. Will just live with the Madstadt for now.

 

I've got a Madstad on my 2020 T100. Only windshield I've ever had so impossible for me to give comparisons; but I do appreciate the relief it gives with no buffeting at my head; only slightly annoyed at the noise from it.

 

I just bought a shiny new T100 and am considering the same screen. Did it work out for you? and did the installation go well? I'd like to know it you had trouble mounting the lower to supports with the hose clamps on the fork tubes or if that is how they do it with this shield? I have a National Cycle shield on my 81 CB750C Custom and love it. Thanks

 

I have the bigger Plexifairing screen on my 1981 CB750C Custom. It's outstanding and adds at least a month on each end of the spring and fall riding season here in Vermont.

 

Is that the dark or medium tint?

Update on my Madstadt windshield for my 2023 T120; see my post above.
The 24 inch Madstadt is OK but still got a lot of wind on my torso.

So I ordered the Madstadt lowers. Not much on their sight for instructions but a few pictures helped. Figured it out by laying the parts out on the bench and logically figuring out what attached to what. The lowers actually attach to a lower extension on the windshield brackets. They fit with precision and snap in/out easily.

AT 40mph, very comfortable. At 60mph, the lowers deflect wind completely away from my torso; but, more gets deflected to my helmet but no buffeting. There is wind from the kneecap on down which is expected. Being cold out now, I noticed the wind making it to my hands.

Still not as good as the Harley windshield but, on a Harley you sit down into the bike behind the windshield; on the Triumph, you are siting on top of the bike.

Might consider the
National Cycle Plexifairing 3 Windshield Fairing N8613-01 mentioned above by itsArat.

Nonetheless, there is nothing like the rush from the acceleration of the T120 and that exhaust note; the Madstadt will do and I like the quick detach system.

 

itsArat, what is your Triumph model and the model number of the windshield? Can you comment on how the windshield is attached to the bike; is it quick detach?
