Took the Guzzi out today through Northallerton to Thirsk for a lunch stop. (A chip butty from the excellent White Rose cafe in the market square). From there on to Helmsley via Wass Bank, a scenic alternative to Sutton Bank) where you stumble across the ruins of Byland Abbey as you turn a corner.
I wasn't sure where to post this, but it is a Random Rideout Picture...sorta. Daughter Abby does part time bartending gigs. A friend asked her to come up to North Jersey to tend bar at a biker event up in Newton. All the hotels and motels were booked solid, so she stayed at a nearby campground. It's not far from the event and a lot of the bikers were there too. One of them offered to give her a ride to the bar on the back of his Harley - a big dresser. She said they were going slowly down an incline on a gravel path and when they got to a right curving, hairpin turn the biker tried to put his right foot down to steady the bike. He caught his foot on the rear foot peg instead and over they went. She described it as a "slow controlled decent." Some scratches on the Harley and some scratches and a slightly bunged up right wrist on Abby. She was, however, still able to perform her bartending duties and despite her sore wrist, was able to work a drink shaker.
So glad that Abby was not hurt worse than she was.. A "slow controlled descent"--good description though the "controlled" part is probably putting it nicely. She's a beautiful young woman, @Fork Lock! Bet she's a good bartender, too.
I love these, @Bikerman! Please continue snapping and sharing photos like these. But...answer me this. Is there "gang" of knitters near where you live?? How did this creative and delightful decorating become a thing?
Just one lady, who enjoys knitting, and has been doing it for years. If I remember I'll ask her the next time what started it all. The theme of her latest creation is scarecrows.
Obviously more than one lady involved in producing these in the market square at Thirsk. These appeared at Easter.
Spoke to the lady today who does all these knitting masterpieces, and she told me it all started about 2 years ago, when the original lady who used to do these things, needed a bit of help. She had to learn how to knitt, and crochet, and now she's a dab hand at it. She's actually knitting a life size horse, that she's made out of wire. It's 6ft tall.
What an interesting back story to the knitted treasures! I can't wait to see a photo of the life size horse!!
