The sky was blue, the leaves golden, and air still, so I felt the call of the Cotswolds today.

I headed down the Fosse Way to Moreton-in-Marsh then off on a cross country loop along lots of single-track roads through rolling countryside and leafy lanes. I skipped past Cheltenham and down to near Cirencester where I ate my packed lunch on a quiet lane by a tree. Then on to Bibury which included a few miles on a very narrow road (Welsh Way) which is enclosed by trees on both sides and it’s one of those magical tunnels with dappled shade that makes you feel like you’ve gone back in time to some idyllic past. After that was more of the loop to get back to the Fosse Way at Stow-on-the-Wold and northwards to home.

Scenery was wonderful, but I forgot phone, so no pictures :(

For me the identical situation here. Best weather conditions for biking but business duties.

I had couple of hours out on the Tiger this morning and then took the Thruxton for its MOT this afternoon. All good passed with no issues.
I called in at Oulton Park where a car track day was on.

I just Googled ‘Welsh Way’ which I went down on today's ride and Wikipedia says:

The Welsh Way was a British Iron Age trade route and track-way that originally carried trade between South Wales and the Oxford area of England across the Cotswold Hills.

So when I said it felt like "you’ve gone back in time to some idyllic past" it’s almost as if I felt the spirit of that history whilst riding along it :)

Commute for me today; I started off working from home as I had a Teams meeting that lasted for hours, then had to go into work for two more meetings that had to be face to face…the advantage of this was that it was light when I set off and the fog was cleared :). Had a lovely ride there and back in the Autumn sunshine - quite spirited on the way there so I could make the first meeting on time and more relaxed on the way back.

I ordered new tyres, and a new sprocket and chain set. My tyres have 7.700 miles on them, the sprockets and chain at least 22.000 miles. As the set was on when I purchased the bike I don't know how may miles were put on before that. I'm changing it out of precaution really. For my rear sprocket I'm going back to the standard 42 (Supersprocks though). It's currently 45, so that will make it easier to keep the front down, and probably a bit more fuel efficient :p.
For tyres I opted for Michelin Road 6.
    Booked for fitting next tuesday.

@Dawsy nope, not like Miss Daisy, as @Wessa will attest to.... I just oil it regularly, even more so when have ridden in the wet. In spain it was very helpful to have Steve about, as I don't have a centre stand. He would tip it on the side stand so I could oil it quickly. I reckon the supersprox sprocket helps, too. Not just goodlooking, but also aluminium centre and steel cogs.

Michelin claim +10% on durability for the Road 6 - we'll see!

Yes chain maintenance is not a lot of fun when you don’t have a centre stand. I was more than happy to assist @Vulpes with the job when we were in Spain. And talking of Spain some spirited riding was the order of the day, well on a number of occasions :)

What chain lube do you all use, I need another tin as my last one has run out. Previous one was Rock Oil something or other. Quite good but a bit flingy…!

    Not seen that one before.
I have a new chain and sprocket set waiting, with 24k miles on the clock, but wear is still minimal. Oil every second tanks full and clean and re-oil every 4 months

That photo by the water is beautiful, @Wessa. The water is so still and glass-like that the reflection is stunning.

So @Wessa was part riding buddy and part center stand "sherpa" on your Spain trip, then, @Vulpes? ;):joy: It's good to have riding buddies like that.

Excellent riding buddy and good company - but I wouldn't dare call him a sherpa! :p:joy::laughing:
