Hello all. Been riding for a few years now, started with Harley, then bought an Indian. Went to the Triumph dealer near me last week after having seen a few of the 22 models online. I’d seen a few in person when I bought the Indian, as they were a Triumph dealer as well. I’ve always been a simple, old-school style, fan. These type bikes have always been my favorite. I had a Street Glide for a bit but don’t really go long distances or need to carry lots of stuff, so it didn’t really fit my style/needs/wants (had to try a Harley bagger though). I had a Harley Slim at the same time and I grabbed those keys 9 out of 10 times. My shoulders have some issues over the last couple years (53 yrs old and former college baseball player), So I’ve gravitated toward lighter bikes at this point and don’t own those two anymore. Now with a Harley Street Bob and Indian Scout…..Until last week, when I made the trip to the Triumph dealer. I was immediately drawn to the Bobber and T120, (saw and researched them online first) loved the nostalgic look of both, and truly fell for both of them after being comfortable when riding each one. My mind was initially set on the Bobber, but I couldn’t get out of my head about that unmistakable look that I love, and the history of the T120. I left the dealer truly torn and said I’d think about it that night. Thank you for sticking with the story this long….I ended up with both and couldn’t be happier! Looking forward to all the Triumph knowledge to be found here.
Richard, I'm sitting up in SC and I was wondering if you went to Cherokee Cycle (name changing to D2 Power Sports next week) up on Greer SC or somewhere down in GA? The team up in Greer is a great bunch of people and between my wife and I we've bought 6 bikes from them over the years. Between the T120 or the Triumph Bobber or Scout Bobber I have little experience to share. My wife had the Scout Bobber until recently when she traded it in on the '22 Chief Darkhorse. The number one issue with the Scout Bobber and I think the Triumph Bobber will fall into the same category is suspension. I love the way they look but if you ride over more than an ants ass you'll bottom out that suspension and it makes for an uncomfortable ride in my opinion. While I only did a test ride on the T120 that has that awesome 1200 CC engine and more than enough suspension for around town or highway runs. I guess it will depend on how you'll ride this thing and if comfort is more important than bobber vs old school styling.
Hi. I actually went to a dealer in Chatanooga, they treated me very well. As far as comfort importance vs styling….The only Scout issue I’ve had is the sitting position comfort, I’ve made some adjustments, but haven’t been completely comfortable with any riding position yet, that’s on most any ride over 30 minutes or so. The suspension hasn’t posed a problem for me on any bike, but I’m 5’9”, 140lbs, so I’m kind of an afterthought as far as weight, on any bike. Riding long distances isn’t what I do anyway, just enjoy the local mountain twisty roads for an hour or two at a time, and running around town. So, I’d say styling is on par with comfort when choosing a bike, for the riding that I do… but that wouldn’t be the case if I were planning 400-600 mile trips, long travels, etc….
Greetings and welcome to the forum, Richard! Thanks for the great intro. Interesting progression of motorcycles you've had. Please share some pics of those new Triumphs with us! And a few of the previous bikes would be more than welcome, too.
Richard Lovett Welcome to the family. Do hit the upload a file button bottom right corner and show the inmates some of the bikes. When you stop playing of course. Joe.
I have tried to upload several pictures, but it is telling me that the upload file is too big. I’m part of a couple other forums that participate on Tapatalk, and that’s where I usually load my pictures from. But I’m not sure if this form is on that app?
Wow, Richard, that's some garage you have there! One of my riding buddies would be jealous of that black and orange Street Bob. He has been drooling over that model and in that color since it first hit the showroom floor.
Hey, welcome and great story! I also went from Harley to Triumph recently and got the exact same bike! Love it! There is definitely a big difference. Hope you enjoy your new bikes!
