Which tools do you trust? how cheap would you go

Facom, Teng & Halford Professional for me in that order. I have some Snapon items, but apart from the good service from the reps, would not say they are any better than Facom. Britool being my least favourite and most frustrating in the respect of breaking over the years.

 

I use Halfords Professional, but Ebay is a good place to get good tools a reasonable prices, especially if you are buying from genuine shops and not the cheap far east coppies.

But I only use them occasionally, might be different for the mechanics on here.

I make my living with tools, I have halfords professional and snapon but when I reach for them my hand always goes straight past and grabs the cheap Aldi 1/4 drive socket set! These days tools have come along way from the old cheap kamasa cheese and such like 1/2" drive Neanderthal rubbish. I'm not saying every cheap tool is good but my Aldi mini set has had serious day to day use and only every broke one bit over 4 years which I can say is less than the snapon ive broke over the years.

 

Halford for sockets and spanners, facom for screwdrivers and pliers.
Also like craftsman tools, but not easy to get hold of. Got loads when over in the states and get them when family visit.

I use ebay for specialist bits and pieces, caliper wind / pushy back in kit, etc. Stuff that ain't critical if it were to break.

 

I have a Draper socket set that my wife bought for me 25 years ago and still use it today. I also use a set of 6 sided impact sockets, Aldi ratchet spanners, - a full range of stuff tbh.

The best things I have are the various ratchet spanners, the Magnusson 6 sided sockets and the two extendible Magnusson socket drivers.

 

To be perfectly honest with you the only tools I trust 100 % is the ones in MY HANDS lol
Otherwise I need names and address's of all concerned

 

Halfords professional (with lifetime guarantee) I've never had any break and facom. I don't like buying cheap as I use them for work and pleasure but I do have a set for each to keep the pleasure set clean

 

Halfords Professional and Teng are my favourites but as it's just for pleasure use rather than professional use I consider other brands such as Sealey , Draper etc if they do the same or similar cheaper.
As to the cheapos haven't bought any of them to comment on them.
As you can see I tend to go with known brands.

 

As I said on another thread I have found my Halfords pro socket set to be excellent, along with my old Draper tools, Kamasa trolley jack, and Gedore odd spanners, and I'm never happier than when I've got my King Dick in me hand!
I picked up an old Britool 15/16 X 1" open ended for £2 off a boot sale on Saturday to fit the rear right axle nut.
I have 2 sets of Stanley screwdrivers, I use nothing else.

 

Gave up on Stanley screwdrivers a couple of years ago, just not the same quality as they used to produce, gone to Facom screwdrivers now.
One of the best kits I have is a Halfords 1/4" drive set, great for use on the bike and small enough to chuck in the panniers when away for a few days.

 

Never thought of that. If going away I usually put my 1/4 inch drive handle in with an Oxford Essentials tool kit http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/76911 along with some spanners. Pretty much covers it for me. The only thing not in that that I carry is some torx bit keys along with the already mentioned spanners

 

I notice halfords have been mentioned so many times now. They've come along way from 40 years ago when the whole shop was full of shite and well done Halfords!

 

Got to say.....Halfords pro tools are really ace. Had a 10mm ratchet spanner play up & Halfords replaced it without even seeing a receipt. I also have a draper 1/4 drive socket set which has never, ever failed me.
Halfords torque wrenches are good too, I have 2 (Greedy git)

 

There's not that many things I would buy from Halfords as I still think most of what they sell is over priced and poor quality for what it is.
Their Advanced/Pro range of tools is one of the exceptions, particularly when they are on sale.
I have bought a lot of their tools over the years one thing that still is expensive is their torque wrenches.
You can get Teng ones for the same or lower priced than theirs.
