I ordered some gaiters for my 2015 Bonnie SE and after viewing installation vids it appears I have to remove the front forks to install them. So, while I'm going to go through all that effort I'm considering upgrading the front suspension and also replacing the fork oil since the bike is 7 years old with 15,000 miles. But, after hours and hours trying to figure out the best options I'm getting more and more confused !! It looks like there are so many options like spring replacement: Ohlins FSK 111 Street Fork Spring Kit TEC Front Fork Upgrade Kit Hagon Front Fork Springs Progressive Suspension Fork Spring Kit Hyperpro Front Fork Kit YSS Front Fork Upgrade Kit Ikon Progressive Fork Springs And then some options like these (which I don't completely understand how they work): Cogent Dynamics DDC valves Ricor Intiminators Anyway, I'm looking some advice about how to narrow down this list. Help Please !!
Hi there and welcome to the forum. Yes you do have to drop the forks out to fit the gaiters and it would be a good idea to upgrade the forks and change the fork oil. Any of the upgrades you have listed will be an improvement on the original springs, personally I would not bother with the valves or intiminators, just change the springs and oil. One word of advice is to make sure you start to unscrew the fork caps before loosening the forks in the yokes, sorry, triple tree!!
Thanks for the advice ! Any suggestion on which of the spring kits ? They all seem to be in the relative same price range, with the exception of the Ohlins (which are a bit more).
I fitted the Hagon springs to my 2006 T100 and found a considerable improvement. I would not think that spending more money on Ohlins is cost effective, it's not a sports bike! I have no experience of any of the other makes but I would go with whichever set was easily available in Hawaii. I chose Hagons because they were British and I could speak to them on the phone for advice, they were in stock and delivered quickly, I hope that helps!
After much deliberation I decided to go with TEC. It came down to a tossup between Hagon and TEC, but since I was ordering a couple of other items from TEC combining items really saved on shipping cost to Hawaii (which is always expensive). It also helped that TEC springs got the "thumbs up" from Stuart Fillingham on one of his vids. Additionally, I have had really good luck with some of the TEC parts I've purchased for my Royal Enfield and their customer service & sales is great.
