    Yeah... smoke another one.

    _____________________________________________________________________________________

Seeing how the US started pumping aid to the UK a full year and a half before Pearl Harbor and nearly 65% of all our total foreign war aid went to the UK I'd say there was a reason for that. By the summer of '40 you guys were quite literally on your own. You, including your commonwealth forces would've never been able to push the Axis back without the US, this includes in N.Africa, PTO, and CBI. Our gas, sorry- "petrol" kept you flying from The Blitz to BoB, and abated German plans to invade… temporarily. In fact England would've eventually fallen had the US not declared war on Japan which in turned produced a state of declared war between the US and Germany. Before long Stalin was practically begging us to start a front in Western Europe to alleviate German pressure in the east.

The build-up for that front… D-Day, started in '42 and Germany got the message… start shifting resources west. Had that not happened Hitler would've very probably taken Russia and then returned to focus Germany's attention on The British Isles, which w/out the US would've remained isolated. The Kriegsmarine U-Boat fleet would've effectively blockaded the UK during this period as the need for it to venture out and sink convoys coming from America would be nonexistent. This is exactly what we eventually did to Japan with our subs in '45, which helped to starve them. They sank EVERYTHING hauling goods, from little wooden junks to 35K ton bulk freighters and larger. We let our surface fleet deal with the IJN. The Germans would've done the same to you.

Last I heard, you only paid off your WW1 debt to the US like 10 or 15 years ago. Part of your WW2 debt is still being paid off by reverse-renting the bases we have in the UK. Just putting' that out there.

Like it or not, we were absolutely vital to Allied victory in both WW's. That's not spiking the ball, that's basic history. Up until the 20th century the possibility of the US and UK going to war again sprang up somewhat regularly in the 1800's. For example- we actually struck a deal with Russia to keep you guys, and France, from intervening on behalf of The Confederacy during the Civil War, which at one point was being seriously considered by both countries. If either country made a move, Russia would declare war. That kept you two in check. Because of our early 20th century dedication to saving the UK, and in the case of WW2- Western Europe itself, WW1 and 2 pretty much cemented us as permanent allies, and kept the Union Jack flying.

    Facts.

I've been catching up on this thread (it's sort of like driving by an accident on the freeway--you just can't seem to look away). I swore I wasn't going to actively participate anymore. But as a school psychologist, when people start to trot out the "link between autism, vaccines and other man made factors" especially when specifically put forth as an "opinion", I have to respond. If you are of the opinion that there's a link between autism and vaccines, please read this article and along with the articles in the reference list.

And to follow @Vulpes' question with some questions of my own after reading your comments on refusing drugs or medication, @Traveller, why have X-rays, MRIs, and physical therapy when you "believe that most things have a natural cure"? What if you broke your hip or back or your elbow? Would you simply let the fractures heal on their own? Would you have surgery? Would you have surgery san anesthesia during the procedure or pain killers post-surgery?

I personally am grateful for modern medicine including drugs and medications when warranted. They aren't always and some abuse them, but that doesn't mean they are bad in and of themselves.

I wrote my previous post prior to seeing this one. Glad to know you're not opposed to surgery when needed. I guess the question would be how to know "when needed"? I completely agree with you about deeply researching the surgeon first. I used to be married to one so I know that all surgeons are DEFINITELY not created equal. :p But I still wonder about all those other questions I posed.

I don’t understand why people use Facebook etc. My daughter-in-law told me that she has deleted the app from her phone just this week. I wonder how many more people are going to do this?

Please don’t get me wrong, I suspect there is some horrendous reciprocal abuse aimed at specific anti-vax people. There should always be room for debate and discussion, but it spills over into unnecessary abuse...

In theory you are right, in real life debate and discussion can be only held with a minimum common sens.
For some common sens is official numbers, for others belief and "epoch times". Can be difficult.
I'm still speaking with some friends relatives than are not vaxed. The only limit is if they start to tell lies, knowing it's lies.

I agree. I used it in the early days when it was simpler and not clogged up with advertising and all sorts of other crap I'm not interested in. I ditched it for good a few years ago. Like most tools it can be very useful but between Facebook's own relentless attack on privacy and the garbage that's pushed on it there's no value in it for me. I don't miss it and my life is no worse off for not looking at it every day.

I also don't see content derived from facebook links as my browser blocks them to prevent FB getting any information from my devices. And those people who are only advertising on FB aren't reaching me, or many other people.

I read something the other day that GenZ are not as interested in Twitter and Facebook. Much like the problem of aging motorcyclists, it's an issue for those platforms, particularly when investors want to see endless growth.

It can be good for people wanting to stay in touch, familes, that sort of thing. It's hard to keep it sensible though. Rachel's 'Curvies' bike club are on there - it's good for that sort of thing as well.

I read it an it was good but then I looked up some of Dr. Davidson's other papers and I found what I thought in a Conflict of interest statement.
Of course he finds what he needs to find when he works for one of the manufacturers. Why would he author a paper that hurts his income?

"Dr Davidson reported receiving personal fees from AstraZeneca during the conduct of the study; and was the founder and chief medical officer of Omthera Pharmaceuticals that developed Epanova, acquired by AstraZeneca in 2013; from 2013 to 2015, Dr Davidson was an employee of AstraZeneca and worked for the NDA submission and FDA approval of Epanova as well as the initiation of the STRENGTH trial. Since 2015, Dr Davidson has served on the steering committee of STRENGTH and received a $10 000 yearly honorarium since 2015 but has not received nor will receive additional monetary compensation for Epanova."

So they are not even attempting the use of an off patent drug since they can't make money from it.

He was a heavy smoker and drinker that went another route. Sad loss but on the flip side my grandmother died at about the same age from cancer and went through years of chemotherapy under the doctors orders. It did extend her life for a couple of years but her quality of life during the treatment was, I'll just say, limited at best. Looking back she may have liked to just enjoy the time she had left rather than spend it so sick she could barley move. People make choices and they are not always the best ones but at least they get to make them.
