Treated myself to a bargin new T120 Black just before Christmas. Didn't have any extras from new deciding to add them as required. First is a touring screen. Don't want to pay £300+ for the Triumph one of course. Any recommendations? Am looking at the Dart or Puig ones atm.
    Thanks

As Dartplayer has said there are other threads on the screen issue.

However it is difficult to recommend a screen to suit someone else. What works for one person may not work at all for you.
So much depends on your height, what helmet you wear and what you are trying to achieve. I had Dart screens on my T100 I started with the Classic (middle sized one). I found that this took some of the wind pressure from my body but increased the wind noise around the helmet. I then tried the larger Dart screen and found that this was not much better.

The quietest ride was without a screen at all but this made riding at around 70mph quite hard work.

The best suggestion I can make is keep your eye out for a secondhand screen and try that, if it doesn't work you can sell it on and not lose too much, if any, money. If you buy new screens and they don't work for you then it becomes rather expensive!!

    Best of luck!!

I went through the same thing (not wanting to pay for Triumph's overpriced windscreen).

I looked at several brands and settled on the Mustad. It was less expensive than Triumph's. There are options for style, size, height and degree of shading. I like that it is adjustable for height (up and down a bit) and for rake. You can have it nearly straight up or canted back. Also, it's easily removable if you want the wind in your face on a nice day, leaving the mounting hardware in place for reattachment. I got the medium gray shading and lined the edge with black, automotive edge guard to give it a finished look.

HA! I can't even claim it was a typo because the "U" and the "A" are so close on the keyboard - they're not. I was just going by my alcohol clouded memory.

    It's MADSTAD

Mustad does make good fishing tackle, though...

I agree with SamsGrandad......I don't think most screens do anything for the T120's looks and seem a bit of a compromise at everything else? I find at 6'4" I'm fine at up to 80 (where allowed) Of course, nothing is as practical as a decent fairing......................................

I managed to pick up a genuine Triumph touring screen for £53 from eBay in August :). When considering the quality and rigidity of the mounting hardware there is Triumph and then everyone else (I'm not including Madstad here). I believe this justifies some of the enormous price. The 4-point mounting for the Puig Up-and-Down screen looks reasonable - better then the Givi Airflow equivalent. (I speak from 5 years experience with 2 different Givi screens on a Yamaha)
The Triumph screen (like many others) is noisy around the helmet area, but does take all the pressure from the chest and arms.
If you can afford the Madstad that might be the way to go because of the flexibility in positioning that it offers.

    Hope this helps,
    John

P.S. I have also fitted Scottoiler X-system, new Triumph Waxed Canvas Tank Bag, used Triumph Rear Rack with Givi Mounting plate (also £50 off eBay). "thetotaltriumph" have many discontinued and discounted items from the Triumph accessory range available on eBay.
DO NOT be tempted by the Oval Mirrors - they fit but don't work on the T120.

Recently picked up a T120 Black myself, it came with the Triumph touring screen and it was the first thing I was going to remove! However, it and the panniers have really grown on me. The screen is amazing, super wind resistance and imo the best looking of any of the mid, short or touring screens on the market. £300 is a big price tag but “You gets what you pay for!” try hold out and pick up a secondhand one if you can.

I read the other queries here and bought the Madstad several months ago. Played with the height a bit, and the rake a bit, and found what works.

For me it was about being able to hear my music through my Sena headset. I had no problem hearing my music behind a tiny flyscreen on my 2004 Speedmaster at 80 mph, so the T120:was going to be a great disappointment in that department unless I could get that right.

The stock Triumph Flyscreen was terrible. It did look good. Very true that trying to ride behind that at 80mph was a physical activity, especially if at speed for very long. It might as well be naked.

I found the sweet spot with the Madstad, and then I took advantage of their program and paid the price for a taller screen too. I should have done both in Medium Grey, but I did the second one in the Dark Gray, knowing better. It is too dark to ride behind at night even looking over it. As the heights overlap, due to the adjustability, they both work when adjusted properly, but I’ll only put the dark one on if I know I’ll be home before dark. It is nice on a blazing hot clear day, or while riding along the coast.

The Madstad is the convertible as it comes on and off in seconds with no tools. I’ve not found much reason to take it off though.

I went with the Madstad as well. Mine is the 22" med tint. At 6 feet tall I could have gone with the 20" easily as I have this one set as low as it will go. Nice to be able to pop it on or off in about 20 seconds. The mounts were lighter than I expected but have not had any issues with them.

It doesn’t compliment the looks of the bike, but definitely does what you need it to do in terms of wind management.

I’m very tempted to buy the lowers.

Yes the bike looks so much better with the shield removed. But when going on the highway for a few hours or days It sure makes the trip so much more enjoyable.

It will take me 5 minutes to remove the shield when the warm weather arrives - and I certainly enjoy it in the winter.

I also recommend the Madstad shield. I put one on before i took a 4000 mile road trip in October and I'm glad I did. You'll probably need to fiddle with the position a bit to find the optimal placement . Also, if you get one, be aware the quick release brackets CAN make contact with the gas tank when the steering is at full lock and chip it. Ask me how I know : (

That Mastad really spurred my interest, but it appears they don't make one that will mate up to a Speed Twin. The bike would definitely look kinda dorky, but who cares? It would certainly help out during the winters here, which are relatively mild for the most part- occasional high 20's at worst. Plus it pops right on and off.

    Oh well.

I've got a stock Triumph touring screen on my 865 Bonneville T100 and I'm very pleased with it. I bought it on ebay for £55 and its a bargain. That and the Triumph "comfort" seat are the best £100-odd I've spent in a long while

Hi All - Just to let you know, as topic originator, that in the end I went for a Dart Marlin screen. Haven't actually tried it yet but its looking the part :)
    Thanks for all the responses.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you but I suspect the air blast-like thai bar girls and fur lined pants- it's just going to tickle your helmet ;)
