Another supporter of fascism, it must be taking over the world. Reminder if you give the government an inch they will take a mile. Where could refusing medical treatment for the unvaxxed lead? Next it would be 'if you participate in an activity deemed unsafe you have to pay for your own treatment'. You could include riding motorcycles, hiking, most sports, or even driving a car. So by your idea anyone injured in those activities should have to either pay for it themselves or stay home and suffer. Then you could also take it to participating in unhealthy activities such as smoking, drinking, eating sweets. Why should medical insurance have to pay for lung cancer, liver and kidney failure, or health conditions related to obesity? I pay for medical insurance not because it gives the insurance company a right to make medical decisions for me, rather to pay the bills that come with my lifestyle. If the insurance company decides they do not want to take that chance then they need to cancel my policy and I will find another one. This would be a mistake since until now I have been nothing but profit to the insurance company. Other than mandatory visits to the VA doctors I have not seen a doctor in several years. I can't remember the last time I had a cold or any ailment. But I do spend hundreds of dollars a month extra on foods and supplements to increase my immune system and stay healthy. I would say that if people do not take an active daily role in staying healthy they should be refused all medical treatment caused by their lack of concern for their own health. Isn't that the same idea as refusing treatment or payment for not being vaxxed?
I agree with everything you said there, Traveller. Except for one thing. I know we live in a world of polarised opinions and reactionary rhetoric, but I wouldn’t call Rooster’s opinion ‘fascism’. Plenty of countries demand payment for any and all medical treatment. Even here (UK) we have insurance companies that will cover some treatments and not others.
But those treatments that are not covered should be noted in the policy giving the person a choice to find another policy or an alternate treatment. The insurance company should not be able to just decide as they go what will be covered or not without informing the policy holder and giving them a chance to find new coverage.
That’s a reasonable point however, in my case it would have meant understanding every NICE recognised treatment and deciding whether I would need something not covered. That would have been tricky.
Tricky but possible. Let's just say you have diabetes and need treatment for it. You would look at the policy to ensure your medication is covered, correct?
Well you could've fooled me. For someone who says he doesn't give so much shit and doesn't care, you certainly have plenty to say. So I think you DO give a shit.
Yes, of course But it assumes you have some reasonable expectation of foresight. That isn’t always the case. Which is why the NHS is such a valuable institution.
"Fascism"--that term gets thrown around a lot these days. When I hear people use it in an argument or debate (usually an argument) it always feels rather "neener neener" to me. So I thought I'd do a bit of reading and become more informed. I found this article very informative and I'll probably be asking those who throw the word "fascism" or "fascist" into an argument for a more detailed explanation of their use of the term. https://www.livescience.com/57622-fascism.html The following two paragraphs excerpted from the article reflect my confusion and discomfort with hearing the words "fascism" and "fascist" being bandied about these days.
I see it more in the dictionary definition. Fascism - a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition. Looking into parts or the definition. "exalts nation and often race above the individual" people and governments today are exalting (assigning a high status or value to) the vaxxed while degrading the un-vaccinated. Just swap race with vaccination status. How? "social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition" For example in many states and countries the unvaxxed can't go into public places, are told to wear masks, pushed out of social settings, and fired from their job. This part of the definition goes along with what was said earlier about refusing medical treatment or making a person pay for the treatment even in cases that the person is fully insured. I don't understand how many people cannot see that this entire COVID thing is being used to turn people against each other. If someone wants the vaccine I fully support their choice but that goes both ways. Deciding not to get a vaccine should not have repercussions other than the risk of a virus. If the vaccine works the vaccinated have nothing to fear from the unvaccinated. Freedom of choice is important.
I completely agree that freedom of choice is important, but in developed society so is social responsibility.

I really didn't want to get dragged into this but your statement above is so wrong. In my local town hospital, and this will be replicated in many others, the Covid ward is populated entirely by UNVACCINATED, 20 - 40 year olds. It is plainly the unvaccinated that are potentially going to overwhelm our health service and at the very least delay vital treatment for non covid patients. This does result in deaths due to delayed cancer treatments etc. So to say if the vaccine works the vaccinated have nothing to fear from the unvaccinated is plainly wrong. The vaccine does protect and certainly keep people out of hospital.
I have to agree with andypandy on this. As soon as I read that line my thoughts went to our local hospital, which has a high proportion of unvaccinated patients (I know nurses who work there), who are taking up beds, staff time and resources. I also know of people who have had waiting time for operations extended yet again. And some of those people are suffering. So yes, in this respect some vaccinated people do have something to fear from the unvaccinated.
One of my wifes friends was diagnosed with cancer early in 2020. Her treatment was cancelled due to covid. When she got an appointment earlier this year, there was nothing they could do for her, she died during the summer. This is exactly what can happen when unvaccinated patients take up all the hospital beds. Yes, we have things to fear.
