Bike Tracker Anyone.......?

I would think about an Apple AirTag. No subscription just a one-off cost of £29. Because it will show last recorded position it may actually show where the scumbags have taken the bike.

if they have an iPhone it will let them know they are being tracked, but that may make them decide to abandon the bike quickly.

Only occasionally hear of bike's being stolen in Perth .. and over East it's a bit more of an issue !

I bought the monimoto, litelok and zovvi disk lock from using TMF links in the youtube stuff.
However, I really wouldn’t bother with the zovvi disk lock as after a few days in the shed/garage, it stops making a noise when nudged etc. Ok for a few hrs I suppose.
The other two are great and I also bought an oxford brake lock too. It's very plastic though but it'll hold up the little shits for longer.

I have been thinking about your story @Pegscraper and I have concluded that while security at home in terms of locked garage disc locks etc are sensible precautions, out on the road any additional security like a tracker are in my opinion a bit of a waste. To be honest if my bike is stolen when I’m away from home I’m not sure I would want it back. I would rather get the insurance money and start with a new bike. I just would always wonder at what my pride and joy would have endured whilst in the hands of the toe rag thieves. Just my thoughts mate.

 

Can't help, I barely lock my bike. But interesting thread to follow. I wonder how different system work.

 

I was looking into the trackers like the monimoto versions and one of the benefits that may have helped in this situation is that it will ping your mobile phone if it is moved. So if you have the phone with you and they smack the steering lock the tracker could ping you and if you are close you can confront them and decide then how far to take it....
I had my bike's panniers broken into in Lisbon and I wasn't that far away. Perhaps this would have saved my helmets and waterproofs and I may have made it down to the Algarve? Plus I wouldn't have had the faff with tourist police reports and trains around to organise some replacements. Ever since then I've had an alarm added to my bikes so I can at least respond if in earshot but next time I think it'll be a tracker.
Edited to add: Just wanted to say I haven't used or tested these trackers, so don't know for certain that this is how the monimoto's works. However if someone has one and needs to correct my assumptions I'd appreciate any corrections.

 

Sorry to hear about your Lisbon experience mate. As you say it might have aloud you to get to the twats, but what then. You could have kicked ass and landed yourself in a whole lot of different bother.

 

Hi there.
You can adjust the sensitivity of the monimoto and also the "distance" of the key fob.
By that, i mean that if the monimoto see's the fob is close, it won't warn you if it's moving. I have mine set to minimum and as it's only 10 ft away from the bike when at home, it goes off with any movement. Further than that, it tells me.
It txt's you with a location and calls you as well (no voice, just as an indication)
It'll keep sending you the location UNTIL it see's the fob and then it’ll disarm.

Like others have mentioned, I have an Apple AirTag tucked under the seat of my Triumph in Wales. I don’t have an iPhone anymore but I can track it using my iPad. This is helped by some reliance on my family up there being close by with their iPhones for regular checkins.

Also, my 2020 Beemer has a Scorpion Adventure Tracker with a £100 annual subscription. It’s very accurate but they did call me a few time last winter to say it hadn’t reported in. The app is good and is always accurate.
