Im sure someone has discussed this but I cant find a specific answer on oil change levels/qty for the 955i tiger !
Now this is my first Triumph an 07 with only 10k, have done a few of the common mods to it already and she's a beaut but I am still learning about their foibles and the triple engine. So to oil....
Thorough heat up and drain down, even leaning it to get dregs out. New filter pre-filled and oil topped up with a touch under 4 litres as per manual and handbook. Start engine and run for a few minutes, stop and leave for about 15. Check level with dipstick screwed in, level on wheels, too much oil. Had to draw out about 1/2 litre to get level correct. !!?? This is my first oil change since buying, but previous owner had also overfilled it (but not ridden it after) and I couldn't figure how or why when I corrected it !
Now why does it seem to take less oil than the manuals !? or am I missing something obvious ?
I have always serviced my own bikes and am very careful to get things right - Guzzi oil levels are interesting too !
hopefully someone can shed a bit of oil light here ?

    thanks H

Did you prime the oil filter and include that amount of oil in the calculation?

He says about half way down that he pre filled the filter and I’d guess that accounts for the approx half litre too much. I always used to pre fill the filter on my Speed Triple as it’s located under the engine and you don’t spill any when refitting it unlike one screwed on the side.
I’ve only ever used what it says in the manual or wherever as a guide to how much oil goes in, as long as the final level is on the top mark of the dipstick or window then I’m happy, and I’ve changed a lot of oil over the years.

Thanks for the replies - I would rather trust the dipstick rather than what goes in but manual does say 4lt empty filter and 4.3lt with prefilled filter ! I just wondered if some old oil hid away somewhere like the gearbox !?
A mystery but ok I guess

I run a tiger 955i and frankly oil level is a bit of a pain ..I have to change the oil and run my bike to the nearest flat ground then stick it on the centre stand, leave for ten minutes and screw the dipstick full in.
The level is correct when the oil is at the top of the cross hatched area on the stick. Sometimes I'm lazy and get a shop to do the change..I always have to take a Syphon pump and remove at least half a pint of oil after they do it.
My thunderbird 1600 is just as bad to get get an accurate reading after changing oil.
I think most shops simply read the oil quantity specs and lob that amount in, not allowing for the fact that not all the oil oil ever drains out when changing
