You can set your phone up to only update apps via wifi. The apps themselves will still use mobile data, but if the App Store or Google Play shop want to update the version of the app, it will only do it via wifi

I hope nothing changes with MyRouteapp! I find it perfect for planning and sending routes to satnav, and sharing routes.

I spent half a day on MRA planing a route from calais up to the north of Norway then down through Finland, Latvia Estonia Poland to Prague into Germany France to calais. Only to find I’d have to be away for around a month and a half to do it :weary_face:

Until recently I have always used basecamp for route planning. But having created some routes in myrouteapp recently I have been impressed with the latest version. Creating, saving and editing routes seems to be much improved. I still use base camp but having the option on both is helpful.

Tomtom seems to be the opposite, there planning software I find overly simplified, dont like it. Myrouteapp is absolutely superb for planning rides and wirelessly sending the route to tomtom is brilliant

+1 for MyRouteApp, it is very good. Set the map for either Tom Tom or Garmin then just use a google map overlay for an easier route plan. I do use a Sat Nav for longer journeys but recently purchased their Nav software for the phone, it is excellent and dead handy to have your planned routes on your phone from MyRouteApp too.

The gold membership is great, I'm not sure if they still do a lifetime gold membership now or just a subscription. They do however put on a special offer now and again so if you want, I'll let you know next time I see one.

They do a mobile version called navigation which links to MRA, also just included a round trip facility than is really good for basing any ride outs on

I am kind of late to the party, so could someone point me to where to start researching satnav? This is what I’m looking for, I would like a standalone unit that I can use on and off the bike. I would be using it hiking as well, all uses would possibly put me in areas not having cell phone service. I am ditching smartphones, as I’m tired of paying so much for something that half arse works as a phone because everyone wants a bunch of toys in their hand for entertainment. I will be able to use a tablet to link the nav to when at home for loading maps and updates. I’m also thinking of going with a sat phone as well. If someone could at least narrow down my research, I’d appreciate it, so it will get me started in the right direction.

Is there a website for sharing routes / gpx files?
I'm a bit new back on bikes although a bit of a car enthusiast (sorry) as well but finding that the routes that were fun in a 1.8 tonne extremely fast car aren't all that interesting on my Bonneville 900 so looking for route ideas
