Where To Get A Switched Supply On My New T1210 For My Garmin 660

@Bikerman just wondering is it possible to just piggy back each wire to to the horn.? to your sat nav.

 

Thanks @Bikerman was asking as I've just done that myself, thought it would be a switched ignition source( not live when ignition was off) therefore no fears of draining battery at all, only just done that works well, but was just being cautious myself.
Got me thinking though you could be correct as horn contact would not be active until horn was pressed, I'm going to test this with my meter, reckon you may be correct, normally used to pick up ignition live from headlight housing on the 1600 Tbird.

You could also use a Thunderbox.

 

The horn live does work as a piggy backed switched feed - I did this on my Tiger 800 for my Garmin satnav.
You don't have to press the horn to get it to work!

On my first T800 (generation1) for a switch feed I piggybacked off the horn live + and used one of the horn to chassis bolts for the earth and the Satnav work great.

On my generation3 T800 which has totally different electronics and a TFT instrument panel its not possible to get a Satnav to work using the horn for a power supply.

Not familiar with the T120 electrics but be careful, what will work for one Triumph model may not work for another model.

 

I soldered a piggyback spade connector to the positive sat nav cable and used the horn as switched live. A ring connector to the negative (I used the horn again) and it works just fine on my T100. No cutting required and it can come off cleanly if I change bikes. If a ham-fisted accountant like me can do this anyone can.

 

T120 - Here's my rats nest - I should/could have cut short a few more wires etc.! There's not a lot of space at the front of the bike so squeezed everything under the seat. The Garmin and Denali's have lots of wires that take up space.

I wired a switched live from the rear light to a relay so the (recycled) Denali Lights and Garmin GPS could be powered on with the ignition. On other bikes I've done similar but used a "FuzeBox" - but, as we know - not a lot of space!
USB cable is a braided type - abrasion resistant? - has multiple "ends" for charging phones, tablet, guitar amp, etc.... For simple GPS power I suppose the USB Socket could be used?

 

Maybe I'll tidy it up a bit more... one day....
Here's a pic of the "Fuzebox" I used on my Africa Twin which had lots of farkles wired up. This time I did tidy up the wires - see the "rats nest" tied up with string - I got rid of most of it but can't find a pic of the "Tidy Wires". Again, the objective was to pull most wires to the back of the bike and then sort it out!
The "Fuzebox" is powered directly and can have switched or non-switched power for each circuit .

Question: The Garmin comes with a voltage regulator to provide 5V DC (IIRC?) - Would you connect the Garmin directly to 12-13V DC ???
