I’m changing the tires on my scrambler 1200 XC. The stock Tourance tyres are not my cuppa tea.

It appears that tyre fitters just make up the prices, I’ve had quotes ranging from 200 quid to over 400 quid for the same tires just seems like bullshit to me.

    end of rant...

Ouch! Expensive. How much do they charge to put the wheel back on?

Hi new xe owner here, can anyone guide me to a list of approved 1200 scrambler tires. I might want to install a mud snow tire or at some point maybe even a more road worthy tire or something in between. Stock metzler came on bike. thanks, Tim

Basically. yes they do! a friend of mine who runs a large fleet management company tell me that the mark up on tyres is usually between 150% & 350%

If you’re in the uk try Demon Tweeks for tyres, they often have offers, I paid £123 for a pair of Pirelli Diablos for my Thruxton 1200 about a year ago, total bargain!

just checked, gone up a bit but still cheap.

M and P also do good price clearout pair deals from time to time.
The thing I find is to buy them when you DON'T need them, far more cost effective that way!
Currently have three new sets, amongst some part worns, of various sizes, sat in the garage roof to cover any future requirements :p

I’m amazed that the Thruxton only has a 160 on the rear. Would have expected a 180.

yes I was surprised when I got the bike, I dare say you could squeeze a 170 in there but I doubt a 180 would fit, , no point going any bigger of course but some people like the look of a wider tyre , reminds me of when I was 17 and your masculinity was directly linked to the “J” of your car wheels:)

Beware of oversizing that rear tyre for bragging rights :worried:

The guy a few year back caught out crashing at the bottom of Bray hill (IOM) was apparently using the wrong size when advised not to : unamused: as it can upset the handling.
