This little chap and partner are nest building in the garden, havent got a really good picture i like yet but this is the best as they are pretty shy. I got this by sitting in the car on the drive.

What camera did you purchase, andy? I'm doing some research to buy a nice camera myself. I'd like to move beyond my iPhone. I used to do quite a lot of photography but I've realized that I'm just not going to lug around my big DSLR anymore and I haven't traveled with it for years (even prior to COVID).

It's clear that you've been putting in time and effort into your photography and it's paying off with beautiful images! :)

Everything is going mirrorless now, I'm using a Canon EOS R. The Sony a7 series cameras seem to be very good!

Thanks, andy. I’ve been looking at the Olympus OMD mirrorless series, The OMD EM5 Mark III in particular. I had a great little Olympus SLR years ago that I loved. But I have a friend who strongly recommended the Sony so will check that out too. Thanks for your thoughts and recommendations! :kissing_heart:

Sony, Nikon, Canon and Fuji seem to be the big players. Sony invested heavily in mirrorless before the rest so got a bit of a head start.

Thanks for the feedback, andy. :) I'll take a good hard look at the Sonys. Thing is, I have a great pancake zoom on an Olympus PEN that I'd keep and use (and trade the PEN). It's an awesome lens and would be perfect for travel, especially motorcycle travel. But I love to do research so will read and compare!

After winning a photography competition back in 2017, the judge, after finding out I’d taken the photo with an iPhone, suggested I go buy a serious camera.

I nearly went down the DSLR route, but after much research I ended up with mirrorless Olympus OMD and I must say it’s been fantastic, one of the biggest things in it’s favour is that it fits comfortably in my tank bag. I subsequently went on to win the same competition in the following years.

I’ll post more photos when I’m not on my iPad.

In an interview talking about photography and their extensive range of cameras, either Snowden or Bailey (can’t remember which) when asked what camera was their best answered “the one I have with me”.

No point having a Hasselblad if it’s at home.

My iPhone 11 Pro Max cameras provide stunning results and are with me all the time. They also do great video (improved further with a gimbal).

I moved from DSLR to mirrorless last year. I plumped for a Sony A6600 as I wanted a small and light form factor and it is superb - just need to be allowed out more so I can use it! The focusing is fantastic and you can now get full frame models almost as light as my APS-C, depending on lens choice.

I almost went for the Olympus M5 III but the telephoto lens I wanted to round off the kit was quite heavy but they have a great rep and solid history. As Olympic have just sold off their consumer camera arm a lot of people may be put off buying them, but it probably means a good deal can be had on one!

Thanks for your most helpful and information post, @Sir Trev! I now will definitely look at the Sony lineup. A question for you--do you think there would be any issues or downside to owning an Olympus if Olympus has sold off their consumer camera arm? Warranty, customer service, etc? Would love to hear your thoughts, thanks. BTW, hope you are soon able to get out more so you can put that Sony to good use and post lots of your pics on this thread. :)

My Olympus is the E-M10 II.
I like it for its retro looks. It gets mostly used with it’s 14-42 lens on. It also came with a 40-150.
