Hi all, I'm Mike, 25, from Suffolk and I became the proud owner of my first 'big bike' only a few weeks ago...a 2004 Daytona 600!

A little about me..I have always been a car guy and am a member on many many forums, I have had so many I could easily start a knock off version of Top Gear but through all the 'straight-through-exhaust' Subaru's and Fast Fords I always wanted to be on a bike.

At 16 I was your typical idiot on an RS50 before stepping back from bikes until 2013 when I passed my A category licence 6 days prior to the new law being introduced...unfortunately due to work commitments I let the dust build up on my licence until a few weeks back when a friend of mine mentioned he was selling his Daytona and I knew I had to have it! I'm still a little rusty and havent managed to get the bike past vertical on a roundabout yet haha but I'm sure it will come back... so anyway, I'm posting this on my phone so hopefully you can see the attached pics of my new pride and joy and I look forward to speaking to many of you in the future :)

Cheers for the warm welcome guys, much appreciated. I'm not shy to a bit of banter :-D

Thanks for the positive comments on the bike, she's got a few scuffs but even with my OCD, I'm not too phased by them... as I'm fresh to the bike world can someone answer a typical newbie question...my bike has covered just under 39k miles and runs great but I'm just wondering what bike engine life spans normally are??

Cheers littleade, very helpful info. I intend to service it myself, I'm not shy to a spanner and also gives me a chance to really 'know the bike' so to speak. The previous owner really was careful with it but it just wasnt getting used. It has full history so I have peace of mind of that.

Haha Dougie, I am just paying no attention to cars anymore my focus is all on bikes. I'd like to go up to a Harley later in life but at the moment I'm over the moon with the D600

  13. That looks lovely, rare colour too. Give yourself plenty of time to get in the swing of it, jump on it every chance you get and enjoy!!

Haha I had a feeling I was putting some bait in the water, it's something I've wanted since I was a kid...I would obviously keep the Daytona too ;-)

With the current weather the battery will be flat next time I get on it :-(

Had to look it up, BUT, sadly, I remember it from my childhood.

You summed it up in 9 words!! No I agree, it would have to be a secondary bike 'for show' and then the Daytona 'for go'. I'm still getting used to being back on 2 wheels so it's a long long way off yet

That is a good description littleade - two of my mates have HD's and it seems to be all about image (HD boots, jacket, belt buckle, helmet etc). Someone once said "When you ride a Harley it's look at me - when you ride a Triumph it's look at my bike"

That sums it up perfectly for me Steve

So what I'm concluding from that is I need a Triumph that looks like a Harley...
