The problem is in the primary process. Left and Right candidates have little chance of winning a primary if they’re considered moderate. Independents don’t even get a primary or a seat at the debates.

Yes... Just a horrible candidate in every way. The last 2 Presidential elections have had possibly the 3 worst candidates in our country’s history. I voted “neither” both times. Some would say I wasted my vote. It’s my vote and I feel pretty good about it right now.

So the one of them won and then the losing liberals never stopped moaning,it sounds rather familiar.

Yes, except for the outright lies leading insurrection, and an attack on The Capital.

The least understood point of all of this is the fact that it’s Republicans who are debunking his claims. The Republican Governor of Arizona. The Republican Attorney General and Republican Chief of Elections in Georgia. The Republican Senators in Michigan. These people are doing their sworn elected duty, and should be commended for choosing Constitution over party. Trump is driving over them with a double decker bus. They are receiving death threats because of the lies. VP Pence too. Trump made his cult believe he could overturn the results and when he didn’t/couldn’t they were ready to hang him.

It's not just 'liberals' who think it's a bad decision for our country. The information provided, upon which people were supposed to make an intelligent decision, was so biased and poor it's entirely possible it'll have a detrimental effect even if people voted on their genuine belief either way. The time for rhetoric and flag waving is over. We'll find out in the coming months and years whether just over the voters made the right choice.

Anyway, this isn't a Brexit thread.

Has Trump benefitted the US overall? Has he raised the standard of living for all, achieved his goals, made America great again? If not then peope are justifed in their complaint. I won't bother with the playground name-calling.

I think it’s best that Americans answers that question, don’t you?
Unfortunately, according to the news, they’re even more polarised than we are over here.

Please provide some evidence for the parts you disagree with, Tom. I know you're not a flag-waiving nationalist with a chip on his shoulder so I look forward to your insight.

I disagree because I don’t believe it’s our business. As far as I’m concerned that’s a question for Americans ,(however polarised) to answer.

His rhetoric sounds great. He claimed he was going to return Pittsburgh, where I live to it’s former industrial glory, playing to his crowd. What he failed to understand is, Pittsburgh is no longer “the steel city”. It is a robotics, tech and medical driven economy. He plays to whatever crowd is listening, like every other politician.

I think the reasons Trump got elected could include.

Disenchanted electorate looking for a new way (both republican and democrat)
    Familiar face.
    Money.
Bogged down system and analysts seeing that desire for new blood.
    American system allowing untested candidates.
    Money.
