Even with all 50 states certifying the legitimacy of the election, including states headed by Republicans, and numerous attempts at overturning results through the courts, the vast majority of which failed, Trump was able to "gaslight" millions into believing that "they" stole the election. That is one of the things about all this that I find most concerning. Do millions in our country somehow want someone in power who is an autocrat??
There is definitely a lot of stupid going on 'round here....... And I mean in the U.S. not on the forum just to clarify.
As others who don't seem to be on this forum anymore (or at least aren't active anymore) have said, Gazza, you don't have to read this thread.
Trump and those who follow him blindly and hang on his every word tick all the boxes..... https://newrepublic.com/article/152638/escape-trump-cult
Good question, DCS. Some have said that had Trump not been so, well, "Trump" that another more subtle wanna-be autocrat could have done--or could do--much more damage to our democracy.
I know a number of Republicans who are appalled both by Trump and by those in their party who either actively support him or look the other way. Those who follow Trump blindly are not mainstream traditional Republicans. I'm not quite sure that many of them are Republicans other in name only. I have one family member who thinks Trump is just fine but when asked why he supports him and what Trump has done for him, he can't formulate an answer. My dad was an active and informed Republican who chose that party based on the values and platform and ideology of Republicans during his lifetime (he passed in 2002). Now the Republican "platform" seems to be MIA and my dad is rolling over in his grave.
Just now heard a great quote on the news from John King: "The President of the United States can declare war but cannot go on Twitter or Facebook".
Would Reagan, Bush or W have let this happen? Never! All were true patriots. I even learned to like W a little bit after 9/11.
I blether on so I have put a summery at the bottom. America, We the Uk always say the Americas are bigger and richer and fatter than us.Higher up on the top of the tree. Basically we see them as an exaggeration of ourselves. Being born rich ( 1st world) carries its own problems, perspective being the main one. We are human and so strive and work and earn like every other nation, and it is difficult to always look down for guidance, at other nations and remember how well off ( even our poorest are)in our own country. And so we work and strive, (especially Americans, who have no one above / higher than them, to use as a range finder), we acquire, and want wealth, and possessions. All well and good. The problem comes when your needs are so fulfilled your entire life, and we are so spoiled that, we and our neighbours loose perspective. When in a 2nd world country you have started with nothing and grow and finally after many years you get to lift your head and look too higher, things like government, and law making, and politics, you have had time to instill in yourself the fruits of your efforts, high character traits, like, morality, integrity ethics, compromise, respect, honesty. If you sit at the top of the tree and look for these fruits when you hunger, they are beneath you, and so if you don't have their wisdom,to hand, or the example of someone above you to learn from ( like the UK does) then, when you hunger, you eat twigs, and moan and gripe about your lot .simply put. "Best nation in the world huge, bounty, I work hard, and all I get is twigs etc" Never having had to look for these fruits and always having had their influence around you constantly, from previous generations, when you need them, and look for them, you cant find them. You hear voices discussing politics all your life and things always end up the same. ( neverminding for the moment those voices are self serving) and so become disenchanted. Until a new voice appears promising "ripe fruit like the people lower down are eating and we are going to make this tree great again". And its easy to forget the principles, if you never earned them through adversity, you acquired them only through being alive, . So you leave them behind to follow. Snake oil Donald. Summery You are already on the highest branches of the greatest tree in the world. But its just home to you. You cant find the fruit, cos you have never had to look for it. Up pops a monkey who says he has a map and your sold. Its the same here.
I'm sorry. I have been quiet for a very long time and just looked in to see what goes on but I have to say that the above takes the biscuit! You may consider America as 'above the rest of us' but most of the rest of the world generally considers America a nation of lunatics that we like to study because of their amusing antics. The 'Leader of the Free world' title is a joke that only Americans believe! Place is a hole and I wouldn't visit it if it was the last place on Earth and they are an absolute pain in the ass when they choose to get involved in the rest of the world's business. Away and pick yer fruit ya nut!
I'm not sure thay your comments regarding peoples view about America being "above the rest of us" is correct. I for one don't believe that to be the case. Their culture in America is not aligned to us in the UK, but that not does warrant your attack on them. We have as many idiots in our country, so we cannot throw insults at them. I also think your comments are not justified. Unless you can contribute useful and non confrontational content, I will frankly not be disappointed if you stay away again for a very long time.
How many were in this mob please? I have seen no numbers quoted on the forum or in the media, other than "Dozens" How many shops were torched and looted? How many cars were overturned and destroyed? Coup? What a laugh! A handful of hillbillies pushed their way into the building and held it for how long? Get some lessons from Africa or South America if you want to see a proper coup. I can't believe the sheeple on here that swallowed the MSM crap AGAIN.
