Anyone here having a go at this? I saw a mate of mine in the village yesterday (at a socially acceptable distance of course). He looked as sick as a seaside donkey. When I asked what the matter was, he said he'd just started the dry January thing, but kept looking at all the single malt whisky's he had been bought for Christmas in his drinks cabinet. Even his wife had apparently suggested he postpone the sobriety for a while, but he said he was determined to see it through. I wished him good luck with his endeavour and he asked me if I'd ever done it? Yes. I replied, but having had the same issue ( a drinks cabinet full of booze following the Christmas holidays) I'd decided to do dry February instead.

Chance to slurp some of that Christmas alcohol beforehand and then only 28 days to endure not 31. Lol.

I’ve done it before (about 5 years ago) it wasn’t so bad, just stopping the habit of putting a glass out whilst cooking needed breaking...
I’m more concerned that I’ve lost fitness... so that’s my intention for start of the year self-flagellation type “self-improvement “

I agree. Can't see the point. Unless you're on the verge of killing your liver of course.

I did 2.5 months in the run up to Christmas and tbh, it wasn’t easy (which I suppose is the point) but i'm actually quite looking forward to it.
    I hope!!!

I’ve done it for many years. You don’t feel any different until the last part of January and then I did feel a bit better. Slept better too. In fact when I counted back, we started doing it in 2008. 12 years ago, which equals 12 January’s....... or a year of my adult life. After the year we’ve had in 2020 I decided feck that in 2021, pass me my beer.. :).

Since my bicycle crash about a year ago and then with COVID, one of the bright spots in and highlights of my day has been a cocktail or a glass of wine or a beer right around 5pm. I'm working on keeping it to one but am not inclined in these strange days to stop altogether. The key for me is keeping it to one. Well, ok, sometimes two..... Good luck to you with your attempt at "Dry February", @johne! :kissing_heart:

I do this every year, as has been said quality of sleep is much improved and no dehydration and feeling like shit when you get up in the morning.
Saves a few bob as well!

No, I won't be doing any of that nonsense - really don't see the point as everyone I know who has done this in either January or October just goes on a massive bender the moment it's over. :joy:
I will drink slightly less than I have been doing over Christmas but that's all.

PS. I heard some silly arse refer to January as "Veganuary"
You can f*ck right off with that one!:mad:

I'm with you Steve. All this pushing of veganism is really pissing me off as well . Fine if folk want to not eat meat get on with it, but don't try and force it on others.
