Not on FB, but we ve got our gumtree equivalent that works very well. As I travel (I should say travellED) quite a lot, I always check guitar stores/pawnshop where I go. Can't refrain One of my favorite shop in UK is Fairdeal Music in Birmingham. Nice people there.
Brillant!! And I agree on choosing Dire Straits debut album. that one and Communiqué are specials, so different from further albums (like them too but not the same mojo)
Cheers Hubby. That first album is just unbeatable, isn't it? Knopfler, broke, wandering round London, having the time of his life..I never liked anything he did to be honest after that. Edit: Sadly. we've not played for an age together. Our guitarist got a job as an air traffic controller miles away and since had a kid. We actually got a big LIKE from DS's official site, so that was nice.
Shamelss post of us again, but this is Knopfler's greatest lyrics IMO! https://soundcloud.com/klippstars/wild-west-end
Well, I think Mark had such a hit, he was under pressure to write more too quickly. His stuff with Bob Dylan is brilliant, and Van Morrison. Edit: And of course with Emmylou. Perhaps my favourite!
When people know I play guitar, quite often they ask me advice on learning it... I obviously reply that it’s purely the innately gifted who can learn, those with abilities beyond normal folk... but if they really must beat themselves in a pointless quest to attempt attainment of similar god like qualities as my own... I tend to guide them to Justin Guitar videos and website. https://www.justinguitar.com/ Where do guide your lessers?
Learn power chords and play Nirvana, great way to play good tunes quickly and keep the interest going I reckon.
Justin is a top bloke and I would agree on him as a recommendation. For those embarking on their fools errand for guitar greatness.
My main band released that yesterday. Probably not the taste of many, words in french, almost 8 min. Anyway I'm proud about. .
We record at home with our pro soundtech, that comes with his stuff, and run cables everywere. He also does the mixes until we all validate. Usually not much to twiddle, we record to have the closest sound from what we can hear in the room. Mic setup tests takes usually 3 hours, then in 3-4 hours only recording.
I'd like to ask you guitar experts a question if I may. I fancy learning to play. I did a bit in my teens but wasn't very good. However i'd like to try again as I have plenty of time to practice now. I've been looking on Ebay for a cheap guitar and i've seen this which is not too far from me:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Epiphone...tem5244154168:g:ES8AAOSw-JlfdKG6&LH_Auction=1 My question is, do you think such a guitar would be ok to start with or would it be more of a hindrance ? I don't want to spend a lot of money as I'm never going to make rock star status.
yeah, as a starter, it should be fine. If you’ve a guitar buddy who can look it over for you, so much the better... wants to check out the neck action, fret buzz, scratchy-pots/poor electronic set up etc. What are you plugging in to?
Agreed with the rest of your replies, Andy. An Epiphone is a great place to pick up your playing (no pun intended). There is so much stuff on the net you can take advantage of, It’s really up to you (us) to put the practice in these days - there’s no lack of training videos, backing tracks, tutorials, tabs etc to choose from. Go for it!
Ok, here’s a picture of a nervous guitarist at his very first gig using an Epiphone LP (not the jr - but I only used the rear pick up then anyway) I’m a bit more proficient and confident now, and love the pub gig scene when it’s going! Do crack on dude, takes effort but it’s worth it!
Nowadays cheap guitars are good enough, much better the ones we had 30 years ago. Nothing wrong with the épi. My only advice would be to have the guitar properly setup by. That can make a huge différence for playing /learning joy
