It def is but needed to nail a bit of info for medical reasons. The 'verbal family history' is sketchy to say the least

My son did one recently apparently he (and I guess therefore I) has a lot of Scandinavian heritage mixed in with a fair bit of Celtic Irish. I always knew I was a bit of a Heinz 57 mongrel. Lol

My youngest (24, not so young now) suddenly came down with an autoimmune gastric disease and ethnicity is a useful factor in understanding where it came from

Sorry to hear that. It doesn't matter how old they are (mine's 18), they need to be fit and healthy until we check out ourselves. Best of luck to you and yours.

Dilli is correct, although Mr. Sandi did the ancestry research for himself and for me rather than me doing the "legwork" for the two of us.

Mr. Sandi has always considered himself to be Irish ever since he was a lad. But when we were contemplating a motorcycle trip around Ireland in the past few years, he decided perhaps he should confirm that since that was a primary reason for choosing to ride around Ireland. So he signed on with ancestry.com and began doing research. He had a heck of a time determining his ancestry by doing online research so finally decided to do the DNA test. Though he began this lineage journey thinking that he was completely Irish, his DNA results indicated (initially) that he was only 3% Irish, 1% German, and 06% English!. But over the last two years as more people have added their DNA to the ancestry.com "pool", he is now considered 15% Irish, 40% Scottish, and 45% English. Regardless, he reports that he's happy to know that he's from somewhere in the British Isles. ;):joy::heart:

Mr. Sandi also scoped out my ancestry when he was doing his online ancestry.com research. I'd always believed my background to be primarily Swedish. Well, everything my family lore indicated is indeed true. Based on Mr. Sandi's extensive research, 22 out of 24 of my ancestors were from Sweden with the two "outliers" being from Norway and Wales. Mr. Sandi was able to confirm all of my background via birth certificates, ships registers, military records, farm deeds, etc. So I've never done the actual DNA test....but it might be interesting to double check.

Both Mr. Sandi and I love doing research and our educational training lends itself to that. We both feel that the ancestry.com site and information is both reliable and valid--at least to the degree that historical "fact" can be verified and accurate.

@Wessa, I think Mr. Sandi only paid $79 for the whole shootin' match and that includes the updates that he receives and the data base is expanded. Not such a bad deal. Plus he could do as many searches as he liked in a six-month period so that's when he researched my ancestry along with his own.
