I was thinking about those and other options for Winter riding. I opted to try a pair of heated gloves which I'm very pleased with so far. I'm thinking some engine bars would also be a good buy as the engine cases look quite exposed and would suffer with even a low speed getoff.

That was the first thing I added. The hand guards came from the Triumph 900 rally as they fit from the bar end and to the mirror mount. You need something for hand protection if colder weather riding

From what I've seen here there's already a variation of what people would want as standard. I reckon Triumph have got the standard spec spot on for the majority of owners. The SS is starting to look very expensive compared with things like the new Trident, so anything that pushes the starting price of the SS up without adding something that the vast majority want would be a bad idea.

Hang on - the Fox shocks are less expensive than the OEM items! Pop those on and reduce the list price! And the same with the V&H slip on can.

I definitely agree with a couple of the earlier posts though - it would be much better if a bit like cars, options could be factory options and you pay the difference to upgrade and don't end up with a garage full of spare bits... I've often thought the most soul destroying job in the world would be making stock silencers for Harley Davidsons.

£50 option for a different saddle, £200 option for the shocks, similar for the lip on (as they wouldn't reduce the price if you chose the premium option).

I chose the alcantara seats for my car, I didn't have to collect a whole cloth interior from the dealership when I picked up the car!

A very good point. You ride home on the first day with a car following you with a boot full of new parts taken off. The up sell by the dealer was that when you sell your bike on you put it all back on again and resell all the upgrades !

The accessory carrier that goes behind the pillion seat is very good (as long as you ignore the need to buy a dual seat), as is the Hepco & Becker one that replaces the original one.

An LED light would be a very good idea as it should be possible to make one that doesn't add to the price. Might be tricky to maintain the retro Bonnie look though

I'm considering selling a couple of my BMWs and buying a Harley, so I may have a weekend of unbolting a few accessories and getting them on eBay. Mind you I've still got several accessories for my SS that I bought and haven't used that I need to sell too.

I have a car to sell first and was looking at getting a Harley soft tail slim or an Indian Scout. Just need to sell the car then decide if it is a "Want or Need".

I replaced the Halogen bulb with a LED and it's a marked improvement, maybe not as good as an OEM LED but certainly better. The light is much neared daylight in colour so makes the Halogen look yellow by comparison. I also added some discreetly mounted LED spotloights for added visibility. Can't see why they would comporomise the retro look if it came with LED from the factory. On the exhust front, I'm not really interested in a noisier one as Ilike the standard sound but the price of aftermarket exhausts has always amazed me. I had a custom made, 3" bore system, around 2 metres long in stainless steel made up for a 4x4 for just under £500, guaranteed for life (for as long as I keep the vehicle) and Triumph want over £800 for a V&H silencer. It's a joke and we know who's laughing.

Good information on the lights. On the costs of V&H exhausts and others I agree they are too expensive. Stainless steel pipe welded and a badge. I know they have to cover the R&D on a product, but really ? £800.00. Sometimes it becomes greedy.

Got to be LED headlight for me, I live out in the sticks and it's really bad compared to my car with LED's. I have fitted a Denali spotlight to add some extra wattage but an uplift to the primary light source would be great.
